Just wondering how many folks have a canine friend for alert/protection around your place.

I have 2 buddies. Knothead, a Rhodesian Ridgeback/cur mix and Thor, a Black Mouth Cur.

I can tell you these two ole boys are about as fearless as dogs gets. Loyal to a fault. A bit hardheaded at times, thus the name Knothead, but I love ‘em both and try to take care of them as good as can be done.

I have a 7 year old anatolian female 125lbs that is fiercely protective. I also have 2 great dane/english mastiff crosses (daniff) that are just over a year old, and already weigh near 150 lbs.

Here is an pic about 7 months ago.

A little more recent pics of the pups, but this was still quite a few months ago. They have grown since this pic.

Ridgebacks are great dogs, very under-appreciated here in the States. They were bred to be lion fighters, so you know they are tough! They also often have this strange compulsion to climb up into trees.

I have a Catahoula Cur dog, and a Blue Heeler mix. Although, lately the heeler is wearing out his welcome. But the Catahoula is my boy, I adore him. Strangely, he also climbs trees.....I don't know how he does it, but he does. He doesn't have much of a herding instinct (some Catahoula's do), but has a very strong scent/game instinct, and that's fine by me. He is also the smartest dog I have ever worked with or owned. I think he actually understands what I am saying when I talk to him, it's kinda scary!

Do NOT mess with him while he's pumping gas.

I have a cat, if our house caught fire, he'd call me the next day and let me know its time to feed him. We're not his owners, we're his staff.
Common sense is so rare these days, it should be re-classified as a super power.

As it should be! Cat's rule and dogs drool.

Our dogs bark at everything - well the male does anyway. Stupid things. Cats are way smarter.

I don't have any pets now but my neighbor has 2 huge Mastiffs (male/female) that tell me if someone is close. (of course they get all my steak bones as payment)
Be ready now, you won't have that chance later.

have had a few, none right now. looking for 1, but looking at rescue places to adopt. these people have lost their minds. i am adopting a dog, not a CHILD. they want way too much personal information and to come for a 'surprise' visit at anytime. then take possession of the dog 'if' they feel it's being neglected. they act like Child Welfare Services. all i am looking for is a Jack Russel or a Blue Heeler. i have used the same Vet for years, so a recommendation is not a problem.

so for now, i will be without one.
