It will start, it has a full manual mode. No electronics needed, it would be a pain in the butt to start, but can be done. I have spare parts offshore to do what I need. Other than that, not many options.

Interesting... and good to know, I didn't know there was such a thing as manual mode on them birds. Do you have to spin the rotor to get it going? (I think I remember reading that some small planes would operate this way)

No, the battery and the starter have to work. But both should work in a EMP. The electronics in the aircraft are used in the auto mode. The aircraft will revert to manual mode if anything is wrong with the electronics.

Small aircraft will start by spinning the prop over, but helicopters won't. Helicoters have to be able to free wheel the rotor so you can land in the event of an engine failure (auto rotation). When you spin the rotor of a helicoter the engine does not spin over. Small aircraft the prop is hooked directly to the engine, so by spining the prop you are turning the engine over. And then all you need is fuel, because the magnetos will fire even with no battery power.

Yup, it's interesting alright. Looks like a fuckin buoy! Kinda cute and all. but I bet it would be fun just the same in a storm on the lake.

I think off-grid or recoil did a segment about Bug-Out-Boats this month, all in all, I wasnt impressed with their mindset on it. I did a lot of sailing back in the late 80's down in the Carib including running away from hurricane season, and its surprisingly easy to survive on a boat if you have a way of managing your fresh water. Im still a fan of bug out boats, and living near the Ole Miss river, its someth9ng that I have taken into consideration if I need to really get out of dodge.
