I added a load of equipment to my bug out bag and I bought a jigsaw and made things that pop tires when cars run over them (but I'm only going to use them in a shtf situation)

This past weekend I grabbed my bug out bag, loaded my canoe on my car and had a survival weekend.

I used only what was in my bag, so I had to create my own shelter, forage for food, create fishing gear. The only non bob item I brought was my .177 airrifle.

Over all I was pretty good for a 4 day bug out. I kept myself fed, watered and sheltered in relative comfort. I feel it was a success.

Gear included 3 knives, folding shovel, mosquito head net, minimal clothing, pellets, slingshot, snare wire, life straw, water tabs, compass, Firesteel, cotton balls, hand ax and folding saw, tarp and paracord.

    Where did you go Caveman?

    His backyard?
    RELIGION IS LIKE A PENIS
    Its fine to have one,
Its fine to be proud of it,
But please dont whip it out in public and start waving it around,
And PLEASE dont try to force it down my children's throats.

Been picking lots of peas, tomatoes, found a zucchini nestled deep in the bottom of the planter box that is 2-1/2lbs, and 16" long. Biggest one I've ever grown. Melons are doing well, I'll have cantaloupe in a few days, and I have a honeydew that volunteered in one of our compost piles that is going crazy, just planted more okra, picked okra that was ready, but not enough to make a few servings of fried okra. I'll be pickling those and some peppers using the boiled pickling mix in a jar. Ive got the last of my stuttgarter onions out of the ground there are enough to last quite a while. Lost my job today, so that's great, I'll be focusing on finding a new job, but getting lots done on the garden.
Common sense is so rare these days, it should be re-classified as a super power.

@sniper-t and @stormfeather I went north east of Winnipeg to whiteshell provincial park. I canoed out to a nice big island called carter island. Great experience and a real eye opener. I've gone camping and hiking more times than I can remember, but never in a bug out / survival type of scenario. Recreationally there is always time for swimming, relaxing, etc. there's always time to stop and enjoy the scenery, admire what Mother Earth has given us. That lasted all but 10 minutes last weekend. The rest of the 4 days was spent surviving. No time for wonderment. From gathering the proper plants for bug control and sliver duty, to cutting logs for shelter and constructing washroom facilities. From filtering lake water for consumption to foraging and hunting. 4 days was intense.... I know I'm not mentally prepared for 4 weeks (or heaven forbid longer.) so my goals for this upcoming 365 is to get myself further prepared for longer increments of time... Including our savage winters.

Sorry to hear about your job. That sucks badly.

We have been putting up tomatos as they ripen. Dug 1/3 of our onions, froze the ones with any damage after trimming and slicing for cooking. The rest are drying up for storage. Ill dig the rest next week. Ive dug a half bushel of taters from a half row out of four to eat on. As soon as the "dog days" end the rest will be ready to dig. Dog days end August 11th.
Cucumbers are just about done. Okra is coming in a little but not nearly as good as last year. Ive harvested one of my bean rows and have one other types to pull and shell. Peppers are still putting out well both sweet bells and serranos. Winter squashes are making and starting to ripen. We picked one spaghetti squash this week.
This year has been rough on watermelons. I usually have a boat load of them, but this year the deer are stomping holes in a bunch of them before they even ripen. Not sure if I'll even get any or not. On top of that, we picked up 5 new chickens a little bit ago. Some got 3 of them a couple weeks ago. I put out some traps to try and catch whatever it is. Last night it got in the coop and got #4. I put out more traps tonight. But at this point I am about ready to put the rest in the freezer to stop the losses.

Just a quick follow up. We went to a couple antique stores we hadn't been to in years today. I found a old leg trap for three bucks at one. Then digging thru some old tools I found 2 pair of blacksmith tongs and a fully functional in good shape post leg vice for blacksmithing also. I picked those up for 100 bucks. I've followed several vices on ebay and have yet to see one go for less than 200. And most of them are beat to shit. Feel like I've had a good day.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that sounds like the Pinawa area...
I use a plant called rag weed or stink weed for bug control, what did you use?

Got any pics of your adventure?
    How was fishing?
