How to obtain free solar panels.

This is a very good idea. I'll have to give this a try. This also gave me the idea on where to look post SHTF when asking wouldn't be really necessary. Website: http://http://www.ehow.com/how_22847...nels-free.html

Where was this located? I can't make out the writing on the pole.
PSHTF, keep an eye out on highway signs at construction sites, or flashing markers. Probably will have a battery or two on board as well.

While not in the same level I've rigged up the small solar panels from solar garden lights to create a panel that recharges AA's and AAA's. You can pick up individual lights for a buck a piece from dollar stores.

I have my goal zero solar kit, but it charges 4 batteries at a time and cost me $100. I also have my solar array rig up which cost me $20 (not including the rechargeables) and can charge 20 batts at a time. Great in a downed grid situation. Perfect for small radios, flashlights, charging electronics, etc.

My next project will be to rig up a solar panel or two directly to a smaller radio that uses AA's. Again... Great for offgrid living.

I have pics somewhere, I will post when I find them

Good idea on the solar lights. I didn't realize they put out that much.

Question for you, when you get time would you do a review on the Goal Zero kit? I thought they had more output.

@bacpacker they don't really put out that much, but when you break open one of those garden lights you'll see that they are charging a battery which has enough juice to power the light. They just continually recharge the battery.

Rigging them to rechargeable batteries that are in a smaller radio should just be a matter of engineering.

And yes, I will do a full review of the Goal Zero 7.
