Going to do some more research on this axe. It cost 300 bucks, but might be worth it.

There is a reason the deaign of axes hasnt changed much. Still cool looking
Just because it hasn't changed does not mean much. If this axe works like it claims it would smoke any other axe, and do it with less work.

I watched the video of it in use on the blaze the other day, its really cool. It basically does the work of an axe, and a wedge in a single blow. We used to use big iron wedges and a sledge to split wood, this one makes the crack, and drives a wedge in one stroke. If so embody heated their home with wood, it would be a no-brainer investment for sure.
Common sense is so rare these days, it should be re-classified as a super power.
The videos ive seen look like theyre chopping frozen softwoods. I have a hunch that the tire is the key to success
Just found this post and I gotta say......... that thing looks ridiculous. They must have sold some though because they came out with a second model.
I have used one and would not buy one!!!
They really do work as well as the video shows with most wood, both hard and soft, both thawed and not... But
and this is a big, big
BUT
I would rather put a zapstrap on chainsaw triggers and juggle them running wide open... blindfolded, than use one of them.
You see in the video how they chip off pieces off the side of big logs???
yup does just that... but if you do not have a measured stroke (just hard enough to break the log), the ax kicks out the side and flies dangerously close to your leg, while lying the log on its side. Additionally, when it rotates to the side to kick off the chunk, it either twists out of your hands (hardwood) or wrenches your wrist... again and again and again...
I split a lot of wood, and when I have to do it by hand(check the 'I am outa here' thread, it is with a wedge and a sledge. fast easy safe.
If you want a gimmicky splitter that really does work, try one of these:
Give a man fire, and he'll be warm for a day!
Light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life!
Cat's are food... not friends!
If you're going to fight, then fight like you're the third monkey on the ramp into Noah's arc... and brother, it's starting to rain.
That thing looks like it is only splitting pretty soft wood under almost perfect circumstances. I think I will just stick with some wedges and a sledge.
Ive had rotator cuff surgery in BOTH shoulders and cant swing an axe anymore, I got one of these and it works fine for me, but best with seasoned wood.

A lot cheaper than any other options listed, and this design is older than I am!
That looks like more work than a axe. I plan on splitting all my wood with a axe, but will rent a log splitter if I get a lot of wood at once.
