Cheaperliving.com (http://cheaprvliving.com/)is a website dedicated to sharing information about transforming a bunch of different types of vehicles into living quarters. In some cases people have converted an old Mini-Van into a makeshift camper. In other cases, people have made their cars into full-blown living quarters.
There are tons of great ideas for your transportation (and frankly can be modified for other uses too).
One of the most inspiring threads on the site is by a fellow that goes by Trooper Dan. He's one of the few that's actually walked the walk. Check out his story HERE (http://cheaprvliving.com/Survivalist_Truck_Dweller.html) . It's highly recommended reading. I've met Dan (briefly) and spoken with him on the phone before. Like I said. A lot of us talk about all sorts of things. Dan's actually done them.
