Painting of equiptment/gear

As I have my set amount of gear (minus AK-47 30 round mag pouches, those are soon,) I am now in the seat of another matter: Camouflaging it all. I have a ragtag mix of OD, tan, coyote tan, woodland, desert, MARPAT, ACU, Multicam, Ranger green, and maybe a black item or 2. How do you guys do custom paint/dye/coloring on your gear? The gear is all Cordura or canvas. I was thinking something between A-TACS, woodland, and multicam TYPE camo. Something that will go good in the Spring and fall, and anywhere in between. My demographic is a very brown fall, and very green spring, with summer just as green. So, brown/green will be the main colors. Im of course going to keep the MARPAT, woodland, and multicam gear the color they already are.

What process, chemicals, techniques, and things do you use to do a custom camo job on your gear?

And, with the addition of guns to my inventory, what process, items, and techniques do you use to paint your firearm camo? I dont wanna have an all black shotgun! It's so new the friggin thing glares in the sun!

Same thing for Shiny new black AK-47 mags please.

Not sure how you'd dye everything but you might consider a simple dusting of spray paint to cammo up your nylon gear.

That said, having a missmatch of different color gear isn't all bad.

I painted my rifles by degreasing with Slip 2000 degreaser, doing many light passes using Aervoe spray paints (available from dsgarms.com). Simple and durable.

Gotta run, we have company, but will give you more detailed explanation later.

I was thinking last night about how to give you a more detailed description of how I paint my rifles.....but then I realized it's really not more complicated than what I described. About the only thing I could add is to mask off the areas you don't want painted (ie optic lenses, etc). Short of that, I'm not going for any sort of specific or complex pattern so its really a series of light coats applied in a relatively quick manner.

Some tips I could add is to let the rifle warm in the sun to speed drying. Also, use a mesh laundry basket, cut up shirt, or piece of cammo netting, to provide some patten effect.

Most of my gear used to be black but it was also mostly donated over the years so I never complained. I was taught way back in the day to improvise & do what you had to do to camo your junk, so I figured what the hell. Found a "camo kit" from Rust-oleum on Amazon, 6 cans of ultra flat paint for a decent price, and I didn't have to walk through Home Depot! (My wallet can't handle another trip to HD this month!)

It's a little light but I figure there will be some natural wear that will let some black show through.

Thank for the props folks. I'm stoked with how well it came out and glad it all finally dried. I evidently forgot the whole let it dry between light coats thing & while the holster & sheath dried quickly, all the webgear took a few days basking in the sun to fully dry. I've since gone on a camo binge & have managed to paint a handful of PMags and two wooden cigar boxes. I'm all out of sand so a trip to HD for a few more cans and some adhesion promoter. Next up is the AR and some more PMags. :cool:

A friend gave me a couple nice wooden cigar boxes with metal hinges & I needed a couple such boxes to keep some of my gear neatly stowed.

This one holds approx. 30 shotshells.
