In trade for a "tune-up" on a rife, which has yet to be provided to me. This tower here is a 35' and I have another one coming that is about 30'. This is the beginning of a serious comm center eh? I have 980' showing the highest point on our property so I should be able to build a nice tower for comms there. There were/are some antennae on both of these and I don't know if they are of any use. So if someone see's anything of value please SHOUT OUT NOW! I would appreciate that before I throw it out. Nice thing is you can climb these puppies all day long! HOO-YAH!

Be safe.............the night is your friend.

BRR, from the pics I see at least 3, maybe 4 antenna's. Without measurements I would guess at least 2 of them are HF antenna's. I wouldn't toss any of them myself. Even if they need some clean up and maybe new hardware, connectors, and coax, I would bet they are still useable.
Great price on them. The towers alone cost well over $1000 each new. Depending on condition you may want to replace the hardware before doing your install.
I've been looking for a score like that for years and have never hit on anything like that for a good price.

Well, as the story goes. I asked my neighbor about "ANTENNAE" on one of his houses that had the shorter tower that was vacant, if he wanted to sell it. He said, "No, but you can have the one on my house if you help me take it down." I never noticed it before because his house is maybe 400yds away and surrounded by trees. Then I saw it......it was huge, I said,"you do realize I'm talking about the whole thing right, I mean the tower and all?" He said, "Yep, no problem." So I picked up my jaw and tried once more to offer him something and he said no can do. Later he told me about this gun. sounds like a simple enough job, gift for the grandson, been sittin around for awhile. So we get to taking it down yesterday and then after it's all said and done he comes by later and tells me I can have the other one too! Well shit, so I'm offering again I gotta give this guy something right? Then he tells me that he asked he son, (who he gave the gun to to hold on to) where it was.........the son said "what do you want to know that for?" Well you know what that means? I might not have a gun to tune up for him. We'll see but he said I'm still getting the other tower. Should be this week some time. Here's a couple of pics of the antennae, your thoughts "Backpacker" ????????? The fourth one was a rust bucket.

Again this is without measurements, so the results may not even be close.

1st antenna is a Yagi type (very directional). I'm taking a guess at width maybe 12", if so it's probably either a 2M or 70cM antenna. Great for local use, but again directional.

2nd antenna is a dual band yagi and taking a guess probably for 2m/70cM. That one will reach out and touch someone a ways off. Assuming my guesses are right and I had this same antenna, we could possibly talk direct with it. Maybe the same between you and Izzy.

3rd antenna looks like a home brew of some type. I really don't have a clue at what it's for.

Again this is just taking a guess at these, but I don't think I'm far off.

I didn't see a rotator , so what would be the point of a directional 2m ??...I'm also new to the AM radio hobby and i just went simple with a vertical

if your already at close to 1000 feet elevation and don't have any large hills really close to the house , you should be ok, you might wanna think about keeping your radio shack near the house rather than off all by itself at the highest point of your property, go get your license now

did you cut 2 of the legs halfway through, and the third leg all the way through and slowly walk it over with a guy on the roof holding a rope and back pressure ?? , thats the easiest way I have found , if you have the room, they are a lot easier to disassemble on the ground

as said before get some new SS hardware when you erect it.

That's basicly what I had to do. Also had the aid of a front end loader. The legs had split due to water being in there and freezing, therefore splitting the pipes in a few spots, so we made the cuts in that area. A bit higher than I wanted but who am I to complain about it right? Note: Drill small hole at the bottom of your legs for water to drain due to condensation so your pipes don't split! As for the hardware "Stainless is painless" That's why all the nuts and bolts on all my Scooters/Harleys always get swapped with stainless. I dragged the whole thing over to my place with my 4 wheeler and took it apart there. It actually came apart real easy. This thing isn't that old. There was a rotator on there but I doubt it still works, haven't tried it yet.

As for the elevation, we have the highest ridge in the area so I think we have that covered. Not sure where we are going to build the house yet so it all depends on that. We still have land to clear. But hey, thanks for the advice!

You might be right, I'll be checkin out another bulldozer tomorrow. The one we looked at the other day, two fellers came by right after we left and bought it! Hell I didn't even get a chance to have my guy come and check it out! I guess it must have been ok, or they were desperate. Allot of tornado damage in Alabama still. I'll be picking up the other tower on Sunday.

Just to tick you guys off a little bit more there's a radio coming too! Guess how much that one costs? I'll fill you in on that one when it comes in, it's supposed to be a good one. That one will be on Saturday. So break out your drool buckets boys! Sometimes God does work in misterious ways. As long as he doesn't strike me when I'm assembling the tower I should be fine.

Me too, it's a Ranger CB, supposed to have 1200 channels. Has all sorts of gobbledy gook inside, heat sink, kitchen sink, bath room sink, shower. Hell I don't know but I pick it up Saturday. OH, I BOUGHT A BULLDOZER! SCORE!

YES, I PAID FOR IT! But I talked him out of the $200 service manual..........

OK here's the two guns I finished for the neighbor One is a Hartford Arms "rabbit ear" dbl Brl 12guage. made in the early 1900's. This one is now classified as a "Wall hanger" The other is a Savage Model 24 Series "S" .22/.410 made in the early 60's. They both got a thurough cleaning but not to the point of losing it's value. After that both were hand rubbed with5 coats of boiled lin seed oil. He should be happy with this I would hope, Then I guess he might remember that last tower??????
