As Shown in the picture thread, I got a bear hangin around my house being a bit of a pest. I have until Sunday to hunt him, or I'll have to get the CO's involved to authorize a culling of him.

It's a short time frame to pattern a bear, especially since I have to switch him from midnight feedings to daytime.

Tx Eagle. I'm sure the pics are deceiving, usually the coats are done by this time of year. Should be some nice meat though! Start refilling the freezer.

X <-- fingers crossed

It is awesome!! But care must be taken to remove all the subcutaneous fat, as it is very greasy. Then cook it like pork. It's my wife's favourite wild meat.

Render that fat down into lard and you can make some of the flakiest pie crust you'll ever have! I'm with Sniper on this, bear is real good!

hey man reeses pieces and sun flower seeds trap the beast lots of good traps to set up best would be a bear trap then shoot him in the daytime.

Without making one, the only place to get a trap is from the CO's, and they wont give me a trap to shoot it. They'll trap it and relocate it. If I don't get him by the end of the season, I'll have to involve them, and then it is up to them, what happens to him.

Never had bear but I'd try some. Hope you get it before season ends for your freezer. Can we maybe get a pair of boots out of that bear? :)

oh no you can buy a trap bass pro or even make one here is a old school way of doing it

amazon 6 bucks

cut a good hole in a stump like 3 inches wide and 6 inches deep then put in reese pieces and sun flower seeds then drive a bunch of nails around edges of whole like through so they stick out good when the bear reaces in with his paw he will get stuck come out and shoot the bastard usually used for raccoons much smaller holes for raccoons bigger holes for bear paws works the same

I thought about something like that, and I also have some 3/8" 'snare' wire.

But he's currently coming around at midnight, and I leave for work at 0345. So If I got him, he'd have to stay there until I got home at 1500-1700. Aside from overly cruel, he'd be mighty pissed off, and a 12+ hour pained rage, would probably sour the meat.

I will continue putting some food out for him, and tracking him. I foun where he slept yesterday, and will walk out there today with something other than a camera. We've had some decent rain as of late, so he's leaving some decent tracks. If he's not where he was yesterday evening, then I'll still have a couple hours of daylight to stalk him.

Here bear, here bear...

Take Yogi out the picnic basket and retreat to a safe zone and wait for him. ;)

Now to see if I can go track him down and give Yogi a BooBoo!

Wish me luck!

Went out for a walk last night, tracked him for about 3 hours, looks like he's doing his tour. Stopped at a neighbours place about a mile down the road, and he (Yogi) trashed his garden Monday night, and then headed off in the other direction from me. I snapped a few pics along the way:

On the left side, is his walking trail, just off to the right, he rolled around for a bithttp://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/Sniper-T/pond/0612121854a.jpg

Haven't seen him since. I'll have to check the cameras later, but haven't seen any tracks.

Is it possible you're just a stop in his range? I've seen bears cover huge territories.

I know I am. When I tracked him for the first few days, I followed his 'route' for over 5 miles and he was still heading away. I talked to several neighbours who also had him in their yards. In my experience I've found that bears will repeat their route every 5-10 days, depending on how much they find to eat along the way.

I expected to see him again a few days ago, but my baits haven't been touched, I'll keep an eye out, as last time around he spent 2 days on my property, and this time with the extra food, I'm hoping to encourage at least the same.

If he has in fact moved on... then buh-bye! If not, then it is a matter of time before he stops by again, and hopefully does less damage next time, before I do more damage to him.
