I heard last night that there is going to be a joint exercise just on the outside of the straight coming up in the next week or two IIRC. Plus a 3rd aircraft carrier heading there 4 months early. Surely they won't put all three of them in the gulf? Then getting ready to cut the defence budget on top of that.

I love it when our gov't takes it upon themselves to tap dance on a land mine (no pun intended).

Couldn't help myself, but a little Warren is called for I think. If Syria collapses, which I think will happen very shortly, Iran may do some saber rattling, things will heat up over there and gas prices will skyrocket pretty quickly. Couple that with drought, crop failures, high unemployment and inflation and we have the makings of SHTF. Bring it on Warren!

Attention all shoppers
It's Cancellation Day
Yes the Big Adios
Is just a few hours away

It's last call
To do your shopping
At the Last Mall

You'll need the tools for survival
And the medicine for the blues
Sweet treats and surprises
For the little buckaroos

It's last call
To do your shopping
At the Last Mall

We've got a sweetheart Sunset Special
On all of the standard stuff
'Cause in the morning --that gospel morning
You'll have to do for yourself when the going gets tough

Roll your cart back up the aisle
Kiss the checkout girls goodbye
Ride the ramp to the freeway
Beneath the blood orange sky

It's last call
To do your shopping
At the Last Mall

Between this thread and the food cost thread, I have really been thinking about all the potential scenario's that could come from this. Gas and food prices being at the top, but that will certainly trickle down sooner or later. The job situation really hasn't turned around, folks are still out of work from back in 07-08, or are working jobs at much less than they were making prior to. Folks are hurting and things are continuing to get worse. A few months ago gas prices started dropping and around here dropped from the $3.60 range down to the $2.85 range. That lasted maybe 2-3 weeks and just this week jumped $0.15 in one day. It's now back up to $3.19. It's amazing how much difference $0.35 per gallon makes in a week, at least for us. Just think how much that effects farmers, truckers, etc. and that will just roll downhill. Just a matter of time.

The drought has hit many farmers hard, both grain growers and cattle, pork, and chicken producers. I think that the food cost will run up even faster than expected. Just like last year Texas drought caused cattle producers to sell their herds and early on lowered beef cost for a short period. Not long after the prices skyrocketed due to lack of cattle in the pipeline. They have not had time to rebuild their herds and the sell off that is coming will make things even worse this time. By the first of the year I could see beef prices going up 20-30% or more. Chicken turns over quicker, so i can see the prices there rising, but not to the extent of beef.

IMO it's time to get very serious about getting things are in order as best you can. I feel like things are getting ready to get bad and maybe more quickly than I expected. And as hard as I've been going at it the past 2 years, I still feel like I'm so far from where I want to be and can't see a quicker way to get there.

God help us all!
