We got the new chest freezer this morning and it is AWESOME!! It chilled right down and is now holding all the meats from the small deep freeze. The small one has been moved to the Doom Room and will hold all our yeast, flour, sugar, etc.

One thing I had never heard of before was a Freezer Alarm and recently read about it on another board. Now that we will be stocking meats so heavily I ordered one...http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Visual-Refrigerator-Freezer-Alarm/dp/B000I62FQI/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1344106904&sr=1-1&keywords=freezer+alarm

Might be a good investment for those who also have heavy freezer loads.

I've wanted a chest freezer for a long time.
There's just no room to put one in.

The alarms are worth their weight in gold....saved about $300 in frozen food for us when the compressor died.

BTW....if you use a generator when the power is out....the alarm can let you know when to run it.

Our little one, 5.0 cu.ft., took up *very* little room and held a significant amount of stuff, especially since it's just the two of us. Do you have a small corner you could put on in?

Our alarm came today and am getting ready to get it hooked up.
