Saw a Dollar Tree store today, so stopped and went in to check out the boxed milk (thank you illini warrior for pointing out that they carried it). Instead of the little small boxes, they had the quart size with a one year expiration date. So we grabbed 5 qt. boxes for medium term storage along with boxed juices, Yoohoo, etc. All had 12 to 18 months expiration dates. Also stopped by Walmart and restocked canned tuna, chicken, meats, Oregon Fruits, etc. Then went and picked up 2 gallons of wildflower honey to stock. This is to restock for medium range storage.

Great prices. Until Warrior mentioned it, we did not know that Dollar Tree had food items, I kinda always thought it was a Chinese junk store.

We have Dollerama here.... and great prices on limited food items too! I checked dates and did some inquiries a number of years ago.

The items there were the same as what was full priced at the grocery store next door (same lot batch) but if a single case got dropped and one can was dented, the entire case was sold off to the dollar store. hence the better prices. Just make sure you don't take the dented cans.

Willie51

Good point, we never take dented cans. My mother drilled that in my head many moons ago, so it is natural instinct to inspect cans and check dates.

Went and watched my daughter play softball for her college team up north. I surprised her with a new backpack and sleeping bag to replace her old ones. No she has a proper bug out bag (just don't tell her mom I told her it was for camping...........my daughter knows the difference). I also got my son a couple of new 9mm Shield mags to go in his kit.

Well I put the snow shovel and snow boots up to replace them with rain gear this week. bought a new $150.00 bicycle for $50.00 for this summer. rescuing a dob, (Lab and Boxer mix) no one seems to want him and everyone who takes him brings him back so I am determined to help this dog. He hates cats, small animals, small kids and is afraid of the dark. steals all the covers off you for himself, (spends all night pulling them off of you) other than that he has no problems.

What is wrong with a dented can?

a small dent isn't necessarily bad, but it is impossible to determine the damage inside the can. if the coating on the inside is comprimized, then the contents can react with the bare metal, and develop rust, particularly if the contents are acidic (like canned tomatoes); or they will take on a metalic taste (especially for sweet items like canned fruit).

Not sure if the nutritional value is comprimised, but the taste and asthetics certainlly can be.

Dents can also comprmised the seal.

We got 80 broiler chickens 3 will got to FFA fair, the rest will get slaughtered. We have over 60 baby rabbits right now, 3 are going to fair the rest are getting slaughtered, plus 3 more that should be pregnant. We planted 6 trays that hold 72 seeds each with all kinds of things. Going to plant them as soon as the frosts are over. We planted a bunch of comfrey (look it up if you want to feed your livestock). We are about to order a bunch of willow, you can plant it in 5 year rows for firewood, and you can make lots of things out of it, from living fences to furniture. We also plan to plant some large bamboo to make things out of. Just need to buy the barrier so that it does not spread.

We also built a large rabbit colony that we will start keeping all our rabbits in when it is not county fair time.

I got 2.5K pieces of 40S&W brass, going to get more powder next weekend.. Bullets are easy to get on line with no HAZMAT fees, only short on primers...

Ordered a 12v vibrator motor assembly that goes in a massaging pillow or something, will strap it to my Lee Perfect Powder to see if it produces more consistant powder throws.

I have 500rnds of 40S&W reman on the way, should be here next week. Lil'Bravo's M&P is on lay a way.

Got my 2100H programmed, ordered wiring and fuse holders, etc.. to wire it in the jeep directly to battery.

Once my health is back to 100% from where I was near death's door (or so it felt!) with this flu like virus, I need to get back into exercising.

We have a 2 acre field about 200 yards from the house that we will plant them in. That way we can control them with the tractor if needed. They wont be any where near the house.

Sat back and took stock of the pantry, looking at what needs to be plus'ed up, what needs to be rotated, going to make some switches with the bug out bags, going to plus up the kids bags and stand down the wifes bag while shes at boot camp. Hoping that I will be able to sneak in a few changes that the wife wasnt really happy with while shes gone, I figure why not.. since she cant really offer her opinion about it.. might as well make it happen! As soon as I can get out gun sit resolved, I hope to focus on the second pantry! SF has the right idea, but Ive kept shifting priorities and it ends up setting me back.

Since Ive settled on the M&P, I cant foresee "changing camps" again. (Damn, this is expensive AND tiresome!)

I really want to focus on setting back ammo, food and water! We have solidified on the AK so I cant see changing rifle camps. All I can see right now is more mags... and ammo.

Comms is getting ironed out, I got EVERYTHING I need to install my 2100H in the Jeep today.

I am now committed to a shooting school in WV, Ill post the link when I get more time... Need to get more PHYSICALLY FIT so I dont look like a fat lard ass out of shape REMF when I/we (taking Lil'Bravo too!) go!

I bought another 10/22 from Walmart. Cost me about $15 and some change. Yup.
My NFCU Visa I got $150 in gift cards (cashback on purchases)
My Walmart App has a "savings catcher" feature where you scan your receipt and it compares local prices and gives you the diff if their price is higher. For a while they were offering 2X your money if you converted it to a AMEX Bluebird card. No prob. Ended up with $109.
Between the Bluebird card and the gift cards, I basically just paid the sales tax. WIN!
Walmart employee was must empressed. Said she had never seen that done before.

Had a coupon for Dollar General for $5. off for every $25. you spend (use every Saturday only). Our DG store here is the new combo small grocery store-general store. So, yesterday, we picked up 6 ea. one pound canned hams (11/2019 use by date) to add to the medium term inventory. Also, picked up 10 ea., 5 oz cans of chunked ham also with the same use by date. We use the chunked ham all the time when cooking omelets or to throw in mac and cheese or even a tossed salad.

We do this every other week and makes it painless money wise, and really builds up the inventory.

Also, picked up some 556 for .29 each from a buddy. :)

Half will go in the freezer the other half will get canned. Planted lots of peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and so on. About to slaughter about 80 rabbits, half will go in the freezer the other half will get canned. I have 24 blueberry plants and they are full of flowers, can't wait.

Holy Smokes dude! thats going to be a sh!t load of okra if all the plants live. I had 2 plants a few years back and over the course of a month I got about 8 quart bags!
As for the elderberries, I had 4 bushes about 9 or 10 feet tall and got more berries than I could use. Had a heck of a time keeping the starlings out of them too. I used them to make wine a few times but they were real hard on my equipment.

Yes sir, we did cover that ground! But since I dont own any second rate weapons with an unsupported chamber, I had to use the enternets to show pictures. HA HA HA!

The Sig fired brass you send me was all 100% top shelf stuff. The brass I fire from my M&P is also devoid of the dreaded bulge.

What we did tonight:

357 mag: decapped, resized, belled and primed 40 pcs. Primed 70 pcs. (100 pcs ready to load, need bullets, need to test load with ETR7 powder)

9 mm: belled 400 pcs that were previously decapped and resized. Low on primers, have no bullets.

40 S&W: Loaded 200 rnds, ready to fire!

Left: 2.5lbs powder, 300 small primers, 1k large primers.
Need: .45/230 bullets, .40/180 bullets, 9mm/124 bullets, small primers, always... more powder.

I wont be happy until I have 16lbs powder and 10k primers on bank, just for set back. Also, 6k .40 bullets. Though, Ill never stop banking supplies, money has a funny way of limiting things a bit...

BP, I agree on buying them too, they are just too expensive. I've been wanting one for a couple of years and decided to save my points off AMEX and MC and get them for free. I now have two of them and both were free. It took a while to rack up enough points for the big one (about 8 months). We don't use the cards for credit, we only use them for everyday expenses like gas, cell phones, groceries, some utilities, etc. We pay off at the end of the month when the bill comes in, so there's no interest fee or any other fee on both cards. One is a Gander Mtn. MasterCard and I get Gander bucks at the end of the month and you can save them for a year or so. So I save them each month and watch for sales and only buy prep stuff or fishing gear....that counts right? At least that's what I told the wife.

I got another car with my tax return last weekend. I've got a big sustainment bag put together for when I travel bUT I work 3 miles from home and put together a get home bag to keep in the car.

It doesn't contain anything special, I've got multiple of everything so it was easy to have some good stuff in the bag. I could use another compass but I'm a stickler for a good tritium lensatic compass and only have 1 of those. Direction where I live is real easy to tell using terrain association anyway. The bag has just enough to fight and survive long enough to get supplies.

I re read your post. I don't have any load data on that powder. Never even heard of that powder. I asked why you did not have load data, and then I went to look it up for you. Pulled up one of the 2x6' boxes from last year and replaced the geotextile weed barrier on the bottom. It completely disintegrated for some reason, and the box was chock full o weeds to the point it was pointless to try pulling them. Pulled it up, added a few screws, doubled up the fabric, and re-filled with a little new dirt and lots of nice compost. Added a little dirt around the taters so they have more mounding. Tied more wire up for beans, and started a bucket of compost tea for tomorrow. We're ready to start potting seedling maters and peppers tomorrow into bigger pots so they can go outside. Too bad we have 300 plants to pot. I'm also building a melon patch tomorrow. I've run out of space. AGAIN.

I've got another 75 plants to transplant tomorrow or the next day. Planted 6 habanero and Anaheim plants, melons go in tomorrow, they're getting big enough to put in the ground now.

Picked up three more cans of Ham (had coupon at Dollar General) to add to storage with best use by date of May 2019. Still have the DAK canned ham with about two years left on date stamp.

We sorted through our kitchen pantry today and I noticed two cans of Spam were swelled up. Since we bought a small case back in 2012 the Best Use by date is March 2015. We split the case into two locations in the house. Some cans went to our regular everyday pantry and the rest went to our medium term storage closet. The cans that are in the dark closet look great, but as I stated the cans in the kitchen pantry are swelled up like they are about to explode. So those two got tossed. The point here is that it really makes a difference where you store food. When they say cool, dark, dry place is best, it makes all the difference in the world.

So finally have a chance to sit down and catch up on the threads! Lots been going on here on this end, lets see if I can give you all the cliff notes..

1- Wife graduated Navy Basic, shes currently waiting for her "A" school to start, In the meantime, shes doing watch, command duty, and all the fun things that come with learning the military lifestyle.

2- Business partner is still getting settled in. He moved out here from California and turns out all the upgrades on his house is taking 1-2 months longer, I warned him this may happen, so he ended up having to buy a house trailer to live in out on his property while the home refurb is done. Nice part about it is, he was prepper-curious, and now hes learning to ration water, power, and how to divy up his food stocks. He took one look at my pantry and hes already buying foods by the case! Hes going to be a real asset to the team here and cant wait til he gets settled in!

3- We cleared out 1.5 acres of woods, cut it all down, topped it, logged and split it and got it all stacked. Hes still not sure of why hes doing it, but as it goes on, he will see the wisdom of it! One a plus side, on the side of his hills on his new property, we found a partially constructed deer stand that was 12x12 feet and 5 feet off the ground. As is currently stands it has no walls, but we are going to make it a project to finish before deer season.

3-We've now planted 6 apple trees, but he also decided to till up a section of valley between two of his hills that was planted with pine trees but was infested with burdocks (Cockle burr plants). The plus side was he got rid of all the burr plants, the downside, the guy who tilled it all up killed 100 or so 1-2' tall pine trees. So now hes going to replant with turnip and clover and make it a huge food plot for the deer which bed down there anyways.

4- We picked up 5 blue 50 gallon barrels to establish his rain catchment system, he got them for 10 bucks each.

5- We had a freak frost happen over the weekend I was gone, so I lost a ass-ton of my seedlings and freshly potted plants, so Ive replanted a bunch to try and catch back up. Pain in the ass, but needs to be done.

6- Talked my business partner into getting bee's, some of his apple trees need to be cross-pollinated, so it was somewhat necessary anyways, Im sure the bees would find the trees anyways, but might as well add a couple of bee boxes to ensure it happens. Plus the added benefit of honey makes it a definite plus.

Other than that, working on adding to the stores as much as we can, and keeping the house going without burning it all down!

So far this week I've hauled 1.35 tons of sand to my house, picked up a few things from Harbor Freight for work, and mixed just over 1/4 ton of soil for my garden. Now its time to hit the hardware store for fasteners. We organized our nut and bolt bins and have been filling them bit by bit each week. After that its off to Menards for mulch and tomato cages, ending with a scramble to mix as much more garden soil as I can.

I've got one more week to meet our Memorial Day planting goal, and a long way to go.

We've had so much rain that even though the raised beds drain better than the yard, the clouds and saturation has caused the tomatoes to get some yellow leaves, and they're really not growing well at all. I've got to feed everything again, I didn't till in dolomite like I knew I should, so I'll get that taken care of, otherwise it's really good soil, so it's gotta be the lack of sun, heat and the water. The good news is, my onions are doing well, I pulled about a dozen today and they're awesome, on average they're around baseball sized. I've also finished making 3 global buckets, and have several more to make. I've made cedar boxes to go around them since you can see them from the street. They sit on a wall and I don't like the look of lowes buckets anyway.

Lil'Bravo and I shot today, about 150 on the .40 (ea) and 120 on the AK (ea). I practiced some 1and1 drills, mag changes, did my draw to fire (4 step) drill going slow-mo to focus on basics. Lil'Bravo has a horrible flinching problem.. she was blaming the grips, etc.. I stacked her a 10 rnd mag with 3 snap caps, sure enough the beast shows it's self. I had her dry fire for a few minutes and then come back to live fire, sure enough.... she rang steel every time.

We have a match this coming Sat (USPSA, her first my second)... I told her to dry fire for 30 min each day and she should be good.

I welcome any further advice. Im going to also run her with dual ears next live fire, ear plugs + ear muffs, she might be sonic sensitive.

Completed all but 2 5gallon buckets in my garden build. The build contains 40 5 gallon buckets and each contains a different vegetable or herb. Much thought has gone into this build since I am attempting a high output for the space that it occupies. If this follows through next year the items that will need to be invested into this system are seeds, egg shells, compost, water and my time. I will also set up another PVC greenhouse in my tiny backyard. that will require ~$70 of an investment.

This garden build should provide an 8 month growing period a gain of 2 months.

EB Ball and dummy drills are great. I have also found after that I have the person run a dot drill. Black dots about an inch square at three and five yards. Just have her shoot them nice and slow and the work up to speed. I find this used in conjunction with the ball and dummy will improve their skills.

AS to what I have done this week.
Prepping a bunch of 308 brass to get ready to work up my long range loads.
Ripped out the retaining wall in the garden because it needs to be replaced. I have been rebuilding the garden. I have to rent a tractor this week to move the soil, I figure I need to move about 10 yards. I finished two raised beds, I have six more to do. Each raised bed I have to hand shovel about 1 1/2 yards of material out then put it back, good exercise but it is killing me, I've got to get a tractor. Just got in five yards of high quality veggie mix.

Container garden soil. Dug the hole a little deeper mixed in equal amounts of used coffee grounds (starbucks) and compost. It wicks the water perfectly, and everything is cranking out nicely.

Boxed milk (1 year use by date), canned clams, canned chicken, canned diced ham. Also, picked up some plastic foldable water bottles (17.5 fluid oz) for GHB and BOB and YEP only cost a dollar. The screw cap is the perfect fit for the little sawyer filter adapter. It is FDA approved and BPA free.

We also picked up 6 dozen farm eggs from our local source.

AK, another couple storage methods we started using for our onions last year.
1) dehydrate them in uniform cut up pieces.

I have been prepping 308 brass in the mornings this week. I hope to have it all done by this weekend. This will give me about 900 rounds for shooting distance. So it has been cleaned, lubed, sized, neck turned, primer pocket reamed and the case trimmed. I am waiting on a ultrasonic cleaner I ordered, then I will clean it again, this will be better then the new stuff you buy.

I have been working almost full time getting my garden built. I hope to be finishing up on the majority of my raised beds. This will give me seven 6-foot by 12-foot beds in the upper garden and four 4-foot by 8-foot boxes down below. Each box has been lined with aviary wire to block the gophers. I will have a larger area about 24 by 30 to grow corn. Somewhere I will be putting in an herb garden to complement everything. I know it is going overboard but I hate gophers. So I will be using pavers in between the boxes so the little bastards don't have anywhere to go. I just got some awesome traps and I will start killing the little buggers tomorrow morning. The bad thing is the wood has cost me a fortune but it will not have to be replaced by me ever again, that will be up to the kids.

I think I did pretty good... Thinking Lil'Bravo might want one after she gets to shoot it, might have to trade hers in too (likely with cash to boot).

Ive come full circle, back to the AR.

Ive already got 14 MilSpec aluminum mags and my Blackhawk chest carrier so all I "really need" is ammo. Hope to range it this weekend.. betting ready to drop my laser in the chamber and do a rough zero on the open sights. Well I finally found me a blacksmith forge. Been lookin for at least 2 years. I'll get some pics up and a new thread in the next few days. I also picked up a couple set of tongs for round stock, and maybe some railroad spikes. And a couple of hammers for putting holes in metal (think tomahawks, hammers, axes). Plus a 5' cant hook. Traded a blacksmith hand crank blower and some cash.
I am a happy camper! The guy I got it from is a buy/sell guy, kind of a picker type, older (70) farmer. He has at least 10-12 anvils ranging from 30 up to 200lbs. Some really nice, some in real rough shape. Hammers, a nice swage block, other tongs, and at least 3 post vise. He has the best collection of two man cross cut, and single man rip saws I've ever saw, and all kinds of hand tools. (Eagle 326, he had a bunch of block planes and brace and bit sets to). I will be going back to see him before long.

No offense, love guys who are supposed experts talking trash about different styles that arent their own. Bottom line, he said one thing smart, "so whichever way you are training, is the way you want to train".. uh.. kind of redundant, but ok. Think economy of movement, he even freely admits that the slide release is a 1/4 second faster, and in my experience, in a gunfight, 1/4 second can mean the difference between life and death. But what do I know? Your mileage may vary.

On a different note, corn, maters, beans, are all looking pretty good, mowed the lawn, fed the chickens, checked the batteries on all the backup systems, and added more tuna to the stacks.

Oh yea.. thenew BOB is finally almost donehttp://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l128/Strmfeathr/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150526_142702_zpsfenf0tgq.jpg (http://s95.photobucket.com/user/Strmfeathr/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150526_142702_zpsfenf0tgq.jpg.html)

SF does make a good point, I was supporting my school of thought but in the end the user needs to pick a system and STICK WITH IT so it is an automatic movement.

Stormfeather

A doctor once told me that it takes 3000 repetitive movements to build muscle memory to an action, at that point, everything past that is refinement of that action making it smoother, faster, ect. (Maybe this is why I was such a champ at masturbation when I was younger??) So it really doesnt matter what movement you go with when you are practicing your draw stroke, just that you continually practice the same motion each time to refine it. Hence, as 11B is saying, find a style and stick with it until you master it.

Found 14 very mature mater plants that I didn't already have to replace a few of the plants failing to thrive, bought 9 new pepper plants, I didn't start any bells this year, so I got some nice ones I'll be planting tonight. Also built 5 more global buckets and planted them with some of the new maters. I've noticed some of my global buckets don't seem to be wicking water very well, so this round of buckets (5) I cut an old towel into strips and it's in the perforated solo cup at the bottom of the inner bucket, it coils up thru the soil and ends near the root ball of the mater. Hopefully this is going to create a better capillary action to bring the water up from the reservoir.

^ actually... no! It doesn't have to! At 25, aim about 8-10 inches high with your shotty, and you'll get 9/10 and no pellets will hit below the neck. (with #4 and full choke). pattern your gun with the shot you have on hand and try it(adjust height accordingly). It is also the way I shoot flying geese. Rarely ever get a pellet in the meat (aim ahead)

but I agree with you nevertheless... I love head shooting chickens/rabbits/squirrels, gophers/mice with my .22's. In fact even deer/bear/moose hunting if at all possible, I go for a headshot. I hate the amount of meat a lung shot wastes.

The only exception to this rule, really, is a travelling predator (bear/wolf/coyote/cat). If I figure I have time for 2 shots, the first is a head shot, and the second, if necessary is front shoulder. Smash the front shoulder and a predator will rarely go more than a couple hundred yards. It really sucks tracking a wounded bear at dusk or after dark with a flashlight!

If only time for one shot... always the front shoulder! Always!

I spent a week in the bush with only my BOB. I got dropped off last Wednesday and picked up last night. Eye opening experience for sure. I was really able to see what was important, what I could do without, what I was missing, and where I was really prepared (or unprepared).

I was able to test and put into practice shelter building and maintenance (which was wayyyy harder than I would have previously thought), plant and wildlife identification, wild food and medicines harvesting, and cordage making. General bushcrafting and wild crafting.

I was able to test my physical abilities and adaptation to various weather conditions (wind, severe storms, heat).

I was able to practice my shooting with an air rifle, a .22, my recurve bow and my slingshot.

I have done a lot of back country camping, hiking, canoeing and the like before, but for the most part they were well planned, geared, optimized. This trip was different... I had 2 weeks of holidays booked and no plans other than working in the yard. I woke up Wednesday and decided to head out with only my BOB and my canoe. The only instructions to my ride were to pick my up in this same location in a week at the same time.

This will become an annual enterprise for me to be sure, along with my other more relaxing outings. I hope to drag out family members from time to to (without there knowing or permission lol)

Given our weather as of the last week... KUDO's! you should start a thread outlining your gear, and specific results. I'd love to hear about this adventure.

I was up in the Whiteshell. Yeah it got nasty. I think that's a good idea of putting up my own gear review thread. Then I can compare notes with others.

Had our first picking of Blueberries and Serrano peppers last night. Both were really good. Blueberry harvest is going to be down from last year due to lack of rain, but they are nice and fat and oh so tasty.

Found a real fun way to practice my shooting. I have a group of chickens that decided to live under the house, well they are pissing me off. So I decided to kill them one by one only making head shots on the run. If I miss, they get another day. So far 3 shots 2 dead chickens. It is pretty hard to hit a running chicken in the head at distances up to about 25 yards.

The wife and I do something similar with our chickens. She pulls the package out of the freezer and throws it at me, aiming for my head. If she gets the head shot, I wake up, get out the cast iron frying pan and then cook the chicken. But if she misses, she then gets the cast iron frying pan, and she has got a good arm on her, hasn't missed yet.

Ive done nothing, zero. 95% of what I want to do involves money to some measure and degree, which I have none of. Had a recent change of funds which I wont disseminate in public but were down several hundred a month and a small slice of that was prep money.

Well I haven't done much either this week. Our store is having a good sale this week-end, dollar a lb box of pasta, whole wheat and whole grain, I'll be getting more to put in storage. I think this time I'll concentrate on the spaghetti noodle type rather than the shapes.

Planting 2 hardy kiwis today. It's so humid that all I've done is dig the hole and put in the trellis. I've got bags of solid to take up the hill in a few minutes, I decided to make this one a really nice planted bed, and the solid where I'm planting is 3" topsoil and lots of black clay, so dug a BIG hole and putting in lots of good soil.

Hi all! I can't believe how long it has been since I posted last. I have been focusing on storing up freeze dried foods instead the more perishable foods and have got quite a bit now. I also have a new Subaru Outback as the Dodge was on the way out. It handles like a mountain goat in the snow and much better gas mileage during the warmer months, but that is about all the good I have to say for it. We are almost done building a trailer for the Outback since it is so much smaller than the minivan. It is a 5x8 ft folding one with racks for our kayaks and mountain bikes. We are working on raising the floor and adding storage for fishing poles and paddles this week. I am hoping it is completely done for our camping trip next week. And our vacation home finally has almost all of the modern amenities, like furniture and Xbox. We just need to replace the water softener and I want to add a whole house filter. This week I am adding to the food storage there and bringing a guest bed.

Nice to be back!

It looks like a duplex but the person before us just added another door to the back. The picture makes it look huge, and it really isn't that big especially considering we share it with my parents and my sister's family. I like that it is right on the river and backs up to farm fields, and the neighbors are really nice.

And this is a pic of our river access. Again, the picture makes it look huge. I wouldn't want to, but I could probably swim the width of the river and I'm not a strong swimmer. It is approximately the width of one medium bottle rocket's flight.

Working towards putting the War Wagon up for sale, hope to flip some of the funds to ammo and mags for the new ARs. I had a "good" supply of mags <cough> and a decent amount of ammo for the AKs but there gone and I need the "same" for the ARs...

Im stuck in the middle of putting on my 2" budget lift (spacers) on my Jeep, I need some more tools to finish the job but will have to wait till pay day... good thing Im on vacation this week, the front is tore down and on jack stands.

Bought me another nice flashlight to add to the collection and it's really cool. I saw it while shopping in a store in Appleton, Wisconsin called Scheels. They don't have these stores down south, so I was a kid in a candy store. It's similar to Bass Pro or Cabelas.

It was Father's Day, so Songbird told me to pick out something so I did.......the cool flashlight called a SLYDE Z for $49.99.

LEDs have come a long way.

it's been a while since I've been on, this was actually memorial day weekend I did a day trip just to test setting up my tent, stove, and a few other things outside.

I fielded the tent again when I was out of state and it's not bad to sleep in for the size. Plenty of room for gear.

The stove works very wel, it's the msr dragonfly. Eventually I'll get one of the aftermarket parts that quiet it down and also try other fuels.

My pack is set up for some long term sustainment and I did a short hike just to get a feel for the fit and to make adjustments on it before I take it on a longer trip.

I've stuck the filter in some rough stuff, lakes, streams, reservoirs and even a swamp and this thing always performs. I clean it out with some bleach water and let it dry out after use.

I see you have an MSR SSTL pot, the same that we have... its a bit of weight but a damn nice pot!!

I have the MSR International, its one HELL of a stove, boils water in a flash so you really dont use that much fuel when its all said and done!

Tell us more about your pack, tent and filter please.

I have the MSR filter that attaches directly to the Nalgen bottle top, I have used it with outstanding results!

Thanks for the share, you make me want to get in the field!!

I'm interested in a spare filter. I like the Nalgene bottles. The camelbak ones are pricey and parts get dirty and wear out.
The filter is a Katadyn with the pump at the top, just pump it up and down. Not the hand squeeze one. I forgot the exact model.
he pack is an Eberlestock G4 Operator. TONS of organization and very well thought out. I could write a novel on its features. All straps have velcro to roll them up, the tops of the pockets have a weather resistant top it seems. Grey interior so it's easy to see inside. Horizontal molle inside these 2 vertices flaps to hold mag pouches and use the bag as a rifle rest. Water bladder hangers on each side inside, it's own bivy with a pouch to store it. A rifle scabbard in which it has a beavertail that folds down at your tailbone and with a 16 inch carbine it is barely visible up top. Plenty comfortable with a bulky rifle. Also has a cover to protect it. The front opens on that pack as well as it being a top loader. The lid has 2 pockets as well and a partition in the bottom to close off and open up below or to have more room in if not closed off. The padding is mesh and a plastic dishwashing scrub pad like material so it breathes nice and is very comfortable.
The tent is a mountain hardwear 4 season. Spendy, got it on skdtac.Com 19 percent off on Sunday actually, 4th of July sale. Started 16 percent off Thursday. Lined with a very material so you don't get condensation. No rain fly and free standing 3 pole design. 4.5 pounds and it fits 1 person and gear. 2 doors on it and only 1 has a screen. A prop open vent on each ens of the tent, stakes included and guy lines. It was hard to drop over 4 bills on a tent but is so worth it. Sets up fast and easy.

RElisted the WarWagon on ebay, no bids at all first time, so I lowered the starting bid but set the reserve at the price I had for starting bid last time ($1500), and dropped the Buy It Now...

I have 3 bids on it now, its up to $510... 2 days left (3 day auction). Wish me luck, I need to pay a few debts & bills and really would like to get a little ammo and a few mags for the AR, maybe have a couple of bucks in a sock...

We used the same recipe as last year this time, 7 cups blackberry juice to 5 cups sugar, and about 3 key limes. It's WAY sweeter this year. We changed one critical thing... This year we used organic pure cane sugar. I'd say we'll probably go 3-1/2 cups next time around. Not sure if we'll need more pectin next time.

So... its been one hell of a week.

Food poisoning, throwing up so hard busting blood vessels topped off with stomach cramps. Took me out for almost 3 days. The worst part, its from my own recipe of shrimp dip.
My German Shepherd Sable is currently out chasing the neighborhood fox. Its 4:35 AM... and Im tired of chasing her ass. She runs faster than I do.
And to top it off.. Orion, our son, decides that after his afternoon snack of popcorn. to tells me "my ear hurts dad" so I get the q-tips, clean the outer edges, compliment him on his clean ears.. and he says " the popcorn is still in there! " Im like.... HUH?!?!? So in I go poking, prodding, with a flashlight, and YEP... theres a unpopped kernel in his ear... all the way down. Hello Emergency Room. This is the kid whos going to end up in the Marines... I can see it now.

Are you referring to me sitting the pack outside the tent? I may be just misunderstanding your question.
I recently fielded tge tent with quite a bit of gear stored in tge tent. A large kit bag, an assault bag, laundry bag, and under the flap I had a ruck. The pic of the tent outside was just for size reference and it was only a day trip to test gear. It's still a little tight in tge tent but I could be comfortable in it with just a ruck.
Im all about my stuff staying dry.

Been a busy week for the bunch, glad to hear it... beats bordom!

SF, *every* parent needs a cheap otoscope:
http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dr-Mom-Stainless-CLAMSHELL/dp/B000J1FT4W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1436820901&sr=8-3&keywords=otoscope

I got mine at CVS, its a piece of shit BUT I can see the ear drum. There is no way a flashlight and the naked unassisted eye can see into the ear cavity, nasel passage, etc..

SF, your food poisoning sounds like SO MUCH fun! Reminds me of mine, only mine was not self inflicted (gotta get a jab in when I can!). The Guard was trying to cut budget (as always) so they got these gawd damn Jimmy Dean meal kits that came frozen.. supposed to be cheaper than MREs... I dont see how. Anywho, they came with a meat sandwich, condiments, etc.. Tasteless garbage, Id much rather have ate an MRE. The kits came frozen with destructions to thaw "X" hours before serving, and to discard unserved meals. Well, some asshat in mess decided that was a waste and re-froze a batch.. of course, I got one of the re-thawed twice over Jimmy Dean meal kits, and Im pretty damn sure the mayo was what went bad and made me sick enough to suck on a muzzle and flip the trigger with my big toe.

About me, Ive listed the WarWagon for the *third* time on ebay, WTF over... Damn near cant give it away, but its pretty solid and a hella truck so I came down a bit and added Best Offer, waiting to see if it will go now. Ive got 4 days left on the 7 day auction and Ive gotten no bites, Im so depressed... Need the money and cant sell for a fair price ($2K). Ive got over $3K in the trans and R&P, Im damn near GIVING it away at 2K, where else can get get a WarWagon with new trans and gears for 2K??

Got my 3 free M&P mags today, from where I bought Lil'Bravo her new 40 for her birthday.. That was a pleasant surprise.

Got my RadioShack weather radio with SAME to replace my second piece of shit Midland WX radio which died, I like having it beep for alerts for my county only.

Gotta go, wish me luck on the sale...
