Wow.

We had a monstrous list of threads to sift through to come up with the short list for voting. THANK YOU to all who took the time to post the threads over the past month. There were a lot of good ones to choose from and a lot of great conversations generated.

So without further ado, here is the list of finalists for your consideration

Mental and physical readiness (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2314-Mental-and-physical-readiness)
Feeding a Group (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2253-Feeding-a-group)
How are you going to raise your animals during SHTF (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2244-How-are-you-going-to-raise-your-animals-during-SHTF)
Positive Mental Outlook (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2306-Positive-mental-outlook)
Are you including building materials into prepping? (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2246-Are-you-including-the-building-materials-into-prepping)
From the book of formulas (http://www.shtfready.com/threads/2360-From-the-quot-Book-of-Formulas-quot)

Again, if you created a thread in August but it didn't make the list of finalists PLEASE don't be discouraged. There were so many good ones to choose from that we had to shorten the list to make it manageable.

So we're going to put up a poll. Please review these threads when you get a chance and then take the time to vote. Remember, first through third place in the voting will receive prizes.

11 votes so far with 500+ members.

Come on folks....if you haven't taken the time to vote please do so. The people who invested time in creating great threads deserve the few minutes to choose which thread was the most entertaining, thought provoking and interesting.

Well...we've ballooned all the way up to 15 votes. :/

I guess that's an improvement.

Folks, the people who created these threads put a lot of time into creating and posting them for us. The least we can do is take 30seconds and vote for which one was our favorite.

Well...we're up to 22 votes which is a good step up. Thanks to everybody who's taken the time to look at the threads and make a decision.

If you haven't voted yet please do so. There are some nice prizes on the line and we'd like people to have a fair shot at winning. With over 500 members I have to do better than 22 total votes.

Its kinda sad that we have all these members and can't get them to take the time to vote. Maybe next time Stig/Rj just devide the items between the finalists. Come on people....make the contribution.

Up to 25 which is he most votes we've ever had for a contest. That said, given the numbers of members we should have a lot more.

Have you voted yet?

Ok kiddies....we're up to 27 for now. Let's see if we can at least get 30 votes on this before I close the voting.

This is so sad people. Out of 500 people we can't even get 30 to take the time to read, learn something and vote on it. PITIFUL just PITIFUL

Well...since it appears 27 votes is all we're gonna get....

I'm proud to announce the winners of the August 2012 Thread of the Month contest!

In third place, hailing all the way from the pine forest of Georgia, with a summer home in the swamps of Florida EUGHES1488 with his thread regarding mental and physical readiness.

In second place. A feller who is neither young or of happy disposition. He may be grand leader of a bunch of old farts, but he's forever young and wonderful in our hearts! Mr Grumpy with his thread called Positive Mental Outlook.

And the winner, by a narrow margin of only 1 vote, a man who is lord of both a chicken coop and banana pudding. Some like to say he's able to karate chop cheese with his hair. Others say his left nipple is in the shape of the state of Tennessee. Without further ado and rampant silliness, I'd like to announce our first place winner of the August Thread of the Month Club contest:

BACKPACKER! - Feeding a Group.

Kidding around aside RJ and I want to thank everybody who contributed a thread in the month of August. It takes time and energy to think of and post new threads. Part of the survival of the colony depends on new material to keep members coming back and lure in new ones. So to everybody who posted a thread in August, whether you won something or not, RJ and I offer our deepest thanks.

And to our winners....many thanks as your threads created a combined 52 replies and 1085 views.

Well done Ants.

Winners please PM me your shipping information and I'll get your prize packages out in the mail this Friday when I return.

Wow I wasn't expecting this. Thanks to everyone.

There was some great threads this month. To me Grumpy and EHughes threads on the mental outlook when things go down are very important discussion points and there was a lot of good ideas put out on both of those.

Why did we ever stop this?

The Stig

Why did we ever stop this?

Honest answer: people would pour energy into creating wonderful threads. They would contain tons of information and spur good discussion.

Then we would have to beg people to vote on the threads. Going from memory we'd end up with a handful of votes and that was after several reminders, etc.

It just didn't seem equitable that people would kill themselves to create good content only to have 14 people vote.

Maybe we should revisit this? Would y'all be interested in doing another "thread of the month" ?

Stormfeather
10-30-2013, 09:09 PM
I sure would! I enjoyed the back and forth, it seemed to get a lot of attention and people actually responded to threads. Nowadays, its seems its a smaller group of people contributing, which tells me one of two things, we're losing readership, or we've covered every topic out there to cover when it comes to being prepared. . which I doubt!

Sniper-T

If you do start it, do so in November, I hated when there was a bunch of notice about it and people would stop posting for a couple weeks while waiting for it to start...
