Here is a whale shark, there where 2 of them, but I could not get a pic with them both in the same pic. It is much bigger than it looks, the little fish in the pic are about 3 feet long.

And here is a sunset from tonight.

Thanks, you are welcome. Every now and then something worth taking a pic of shows itself.

You must be way up there for that whale shark to look that small. You ever fish from the platform?

Yeah, we are over 150 feet off the water. And yes we do some fishing.

No, the gulf of Mexico. I am about 80 miles SSE of Galveston Tx.

Weather was bad today. Had winds above 50 mph for the entire day and they still have not died down. Here are some pics, the deck at water line is the 10 foot deck, these waves where 10-12 feet.

Is there a specific wind speed that needs to be reached before they evac the rig or is it only when a storm enters the Gulf that it gets cleared out?

Only when a tropical storm is coming. Right now it is impossible for us to evac. The boat had to go in because of rough seas, and the helicopter is grounded until the winds die down. So basically we are all sitting here with nothing to do until this weather passes.

I probably steamed past your position a few dozen times in my younger days down the "safety fairways" or "oil rig alleys" as we used to call them. PLace is littered with them (oil rigs) I would be doing some serious "selective fishing" if I was you. Does the company allow you to dive off the rigs? Ta hell with the rod and reel!

No, we can't get in the water unfortunately. My platform is just west of the ship channel

It leads to the living quarters side. I will look to see if I can find a pic of the entire structure.

The boat next to the platform is 180 feet long . The structure on the right is the living quarters side and the left is the production side.

Yeah it is not very easy to fish in these conditions. Besides we have a sand blasting crew on board and going outside the building just gets you covered in sand.

yeah, sandblasting sucks. i've been around it and it isn't pleasant to be around, it goes everywhere and it gets in everything.
