Water collection system

Anybody ever try to do a water collection system off their roof?

I've read about them in various places....just wondered if anybody here had tried one, what issues you might have faced, etc.

My dad collect rain water for the garden. Next time I go there, I will take pictures of his rigging.

I will be building a chicken coop later this summer. My plans are to install a metal single pitch roof, gutter it and bring the down spout into 4 rain barrells I have (200-220 gallons). The chicken coop will be built just above the garden, with the rain barrells uphill from the coop. The barrells will also be on a rack to raise them as hgih as I can get them, this will aid in water pressure wo water the garden.
