Happy new years!!

I just found this site by researching how to make a HDtv antenna to pick up free HD channels on the tube.
Its funny because last night I was reading a book about camping stoves because I saw this one (http://www.solostove.com/solo-stove/)last week and it appeals to me alot but I dont want to pay that much money for one, free is alot better lol.

I am wondering if anyone uses one of these stoves. Pros and cons?

By the looks of it it looks decent. I like that you can still fuel the fire while cooking, some of these types you can't add twigs unless you lift the pot/pan.

If you search in you tube there are allot of DIY vid's on rocket/wood gas stoves but the biggest problem I see would be that the tin cans they're using wouldn't last very long do to the high heat but this is JMO.

Hey Evolver
Here it is, imma 1st timer... I think the next one can be better.
But it works pretty good. My worries are the fuel type, I used isy prop 99% and the flames were too yellow for my liking. I could smell that smell that I think is the smell you dont want to smell. I have to figure out where to buy some other types of fuel. Any suggestions?

Fantastic!!! But I don't see it. :)

Did you try just twigs? If you want to use alcohol you need a different build.

oops,
I built the alcohol stove first because I had all the parts lol.

Where's the pics? Ill check

If your getting a yellow flame with alcohol it could be one of two things. It could be the protective lining burning off that they coat the cans with or you have too much O2 mixing with your gas (burner holes are too large). My bet is it's the coating's/paint burning off so you might want to take it outside and try it again. :)

Here is a preview of some of the images.....
I had to use photobucket because there is a 5 image cap.

I was using 70% isyprop and it burned yellow and smelled funny. I then tried 99% isyprop and it was not much better. I just got some denatured methyl hydrate and it burns blue and is odorless.

The water was cold from the tap, its only 1 cup. It used about an ounce of isyprop and from lighting it to finished rolling boil took about 5 minutes.

I just made my own, so if you don't mind I'll just piggyback onto your thread rather than start a new one of the same subject.

No test yet, but I'm going to pick some denatured alcohol soon so I can. I'd eventually like to get a bottle of 190 proof Everclear as a multipurpose item, but I can't buy it here.

MTR, being winter....you can pick up "HEET" fuel additive and it works fine. I've used it in mine.

If you need some everclear, let me know! The local booze shop sells it, I can pick some up and send it off to you if really want some!

Hell yeah! That would be awesome. Stove fuel, antiseptic, and "medicinal" use consumption all in one ;)
