In times past, Ive not seen winter coats at Goodwill. So, today, end of Dec, I swing by and still.... No winter coats! What the hell! Does no one donate winter coats anymore? I find it hard to believe that they dont get any... so year round, where do they go??

I *know* they get some MILSURP and Carhardt and other types, not to mention generics, etc.. I figured if I was lucky Id score a nice wool coat, something like a pea coat... But no, not here.

Whats your thoughts on this?

Which one did you stop by?

Take your pick.... Today, it was the one in Salem on the other side of Spartan Square. Lakeside and Hollins are close, those are the ones I usually visit... but mostly get nice tee shirts, nothing much else worth looking at.

The resale shops are booming here, I've not seen any really decent coats at goodwill in a few years. I'm thinking people are selling them to the resale places now.

yeah I think with the hard times people are selling more of there items at yard sales on Ebay, Craigs List and other on-line venues. I've seen more yard sales lately than ever.

Not sure if it's an option in your area but I find a broader, and sometimes nicer, selection of clothing at local thrift shops. A bonus is most of the ones around here benefit a local homeless shelter, church or other civic program.

Fl-Jeeper is correct. I hear more and more folks are not donating to Goodwill because they resale at high prices and the owner's salary is in the multi-million range (Not that I have a problem with it). So they give to civic groups and churches, or have yard sales themselves.

You can find them pretty much everywhere here. Thrift shops, Salvation Army and yes...Goodwill - which I agree about not shopping due to the extreme pay it gives their executives compared to the other "non profit" organizations (I feel the same way about Red Cross). I would rather give to those where the money goes to benefit the needy and not the staff when they get the non profit category.

Go to the better neighborhoods and you'll get better quality items.

Try the Salvation Army. As I recall their commissioner makes about $20K plus housing. Their IT guys make about $50K, but that also varies with location.

Echo, yet again... You confuse me (Which as you know is not hard to do). Can you translate that into something I can understand??

Total revenue....vs admin cost....about 10%+

But you're dealing with a multi-billion dollar a year beast....I will guarantee someone has their hand in the cookie jar.

Most of the coats go to our local Give a Kid a Coat program, which includes adult coats. they are given out every year in October , November to people who need them. But our Goodwill has some even now.
