Sneaky bill introduced to ban large capacity magazines...

This one is old news,

and not exactly sneaky, its simply titled in legalese. The meaning is still quite obvious.

Now I must ask, what actions are you applying to this information?

There's two approaches you can follow that will have varying degrees of effectiveness and success: Prepping against it, meaning you contact your legislator's voicing your views. And prepping for it in case that fails, much as you would for any other shortage for any other scenario.

We can rehash this one threat here until we all have carpal tunnel syndrome, and it won't do us any good. Its one of those things we must act on. The threat is known. The responses are known. And they're pretty straight forward. Communicate your views. Secure a firearm if you so choose. Gather the support elements to that firearm as needed. Ammo. Parts (including magazines). Maintenance supplies and tools. Go get some training.

That is what we need to focus on. A repeatable principle no matter the scenario. Not repeated news of any one threat. I believe narrowing our focus like that can develop a fear based response, and that is what we need to avoid. Stay the course. Find a balance in prepping, and be smart.

when we argue the validity of an American Citizen owning a magazine capable of holding more then 10 rounds we are already loosing the battle. why 10 rounds? why not a 5 round magazine? did timothy mcveigh use an 11 round magazine to kill nearly 200 people in OKC? the liberal/socialist set an agenda, the agenda is a total gun ban. knowing a total gun ban would be impossible to pass, they settle for bits and pieces to a larger agenda. there are some i have no doubt like mr. sheep, though misguided believe the idea that a 10 round magazine will curb violence? really, anyone reading this thread know what the gun laws in Mexico are? we have a population of roughly [ a little more] the same as australia, canada and great britian combined, what is the crime rate of those countries combined? like i said when we allow the topic to be 10 rounds instead of the 2nd amendment we have already lost...

While the staff certainly appreciates the concern most members have over the current efforts at gun control, and we highly encourage everybody to be contacting their legislators, these threads really don't encourage better prepping discussions. They are already tending political as well.

Further, there are a billion other news oriented websites to gather this information.

To be clear, threads related to prepping & gun-control are no problem. In fact, brother Izzy started a thread in the weapons forum directly discussing how the current gun panic is effecting our shooting habits. It's a great thread that takes current events and applies them to our prepping efforts.

But we don't need, or want, 37 different threads in the breaking news/intel section that are nothing but a blurb about out-of-date, proposed or current legislative efforts at gun-control followed by a slew of comments trending towards political discussion.

We try to be pretty flexible about what gets posted here at The Colony but this is something the staff felt needed addressed sooner rather than later.
