Sweet, congrats. We caught one about that size at the end of last summer. We already caught a cobia 80 miles south of Galveston this year. It is way early to catch cobia, and we saw 2 more the next day. I am expecting a great year for fishing.

Helo, you need to drop one of these jigs off the platform...and hang on.

I would be too!
Let me know if you'd like a couple of these jigs and I'll send them off to you to try.

I got some that look similar, but jigs don't work that good from the platform. We usually use squid, and cut bait. Did you make that jig?

No, got a buddy that does (Blockbuster Jigs)

Do yall troll with it, or just tie up and drop it straight down? It looks like a trolling bait.

It's a 12oz. lead head jig.
Drop and jig it 5-6 times, drop back to bottom and repeat. Much higher than that and the AJ's are all over it.
We were fishing in 180'.

Our platform is in 200 feet of water, so about the same depth. I have never had any luck with jigs on the bottom. May have to try again. I use diamond jigs, and real them as fast as I can coming up and I can catch a amber jack almost every time, if the damn Jack Cravelle don't get it first.

GROUPER...............ahhhhhh, one of my most favorite fish, and I don't eat too many - pretty picky on the kinds. You lucky dog!

Thanks Evo. We actually had another one almost the exact same weight plus scamp grouper (the best grouper) up to 12lbs and another gag that was just under 20lbs.
When all said and done, each team member went home with $1200.00
That's going into my tractor fund.
Lady, we were truly blessed that day.

I really miss the ocean! But, by and large, I like being free more! And it's only 6 hours to Rockporr. Gonna try and get some speckled trout this year to add to my list.

Onestep, thanks for the pictures. Awesome catch and reward! Oh and you too Helomech, like the fish pics. We've been fishing the bay here and getting the Reds, Trount, and Flounder. Going to do some surf fishing the next few days and see if I can find the Pompano.
