Im sure everyone here remembers the Nextel cellular phones with the PTT function between phones? They was all the rage there for a few years til smartphones and androids and Iphones came out. Very secure and cheap. I bought 5 of them with longer range antennae and extra larger batteries for 100 shipped. They run 15-20 each. and get between 2-6 miles but as lower video states they got 14.9 miles on extra antennae. No need to be hooked to any network.

Heres a 3-part series of videos of them in action.

Figure its a great cheap way to get a ton of neighborhood communication going now. Plus the benefits of them is this, Nextel has pretty much discontinued service, so these phones are really cheap to come by, but all they need is a line of sight basically to work. So while the cellular phone doesnt work, the PTT does work quite well. The PTT is secure, and you can set it up amongst people in your group, and its a financially feasible option for those without commo or are looking to get into commo and not mortgage your firstborn child for it.
