OK here's the project I've been working on. I haven't picked up the battery yet and haven't built the storage compartment but for the most part it's finished.

Some of you might have seen these before that I had for sale. I used a "Night Vision" box made for the
us Gov. these boxes are EMP hardened and can be used as a
"Faraday cage" So I made the brackets out of aluminum to mount my Yaesu FT-857D
and LDG AT-100 Pro II auto tuner. Also in the middle is room for a gel cell
12volt battery and storage area for the mike and cords. I used RG-213 coax between the tranciever and auto tuner and from the auto tuner to the HF cable external connector. (would like to have found a shorter one but 3' was the shortest I could get at short notice) To fire it up all I have to do is remove the lid and plug in the HF, UHF/VHF and ground cables
and I'm up and running. The Yaesu FT-857D has 50 watts UHF/VHF and 100 watts HF output. Currently I'm using this as a base station, it keeps things tidy (wife happy) One of the pictures shows the external power supply I'm currently using. I'm planning on building or finding a milsurp HF antennae for mobile purposes, same for UHF/VHF. But it's coming along pretty good so far. More to follow..............

How is that frame isolated from the skin of the box? Or is that an issue? Looks pretty cool.

The frame is directly bolted to the box and has not been an issue. Comms have been great, no problems as of yet. Still wanting to do some DXing on HF but haven't had the time yet. Too many projects.........
