Question about Hardtack

there are only a couple of threads on Hardtack in here. i was wondering if anyone has experimented with adding spices or herbs to hardtack to give it some flavor. i'm thinking that some really dehydrated oregano or basil might make it a little more palatable.

If you like rye bread, adding some caraway seeds helps. If it doesn't have to keep for too long, adding a little shortening increases the calories a little, and gives it a slightly more "cracker" flavor.
