A line of storms came through yesterday and knocked out the power. The wife is home and I am away at work. She has cleared the road with the tractor, and got the generator running. We have 2 incubators full of eggs right now, so we have to run the generator none stop. All is normal other than that.

Here is a pic she sent me.

No power sucks, but at least she has things well in hand while you're away.

I'd hate to lose power right now. We've got a freezer full of food and I haven't picked a generator up yet since it didn't matter so much over the winter. Hopefully I'll have enough out of my tax return after I do some more work on the garage and pick up a chainsaw.

Yeah we practice all the time. I just put over 200lbs of chicken meat in one of my freezers. Both of my chest freezers are full of meat, but they will go at least 2 days with no power before they start thawing. The aquapoinics and the incubators are the top priorities right now. I need to get a small solar system that will run those type things.

Thanks EB, still no power and gas is expensive right now. We are always the last to get power back, because there are only 3 of us that are on the line that goes to my house.

Yes, gas is expensive... esp when you have to run genset 24 hr...

Im convinced when/if I get my perfect houch, Ill be running propane fridge and chest freezer (google). More expensive, BUT... doesnt rely on electricity.

Yeah, I looked into those, but I can't find a big one. All the ones I find are too small for my uses. I am just going to get a solar set up for my freezers and fridge, and then I won't have to worry with that any more.

kudos Helo. prepping is all about. Being able to deal with any situation that arises, even when you are from home. Kudo's to your wife as well!

You know you can run the gennie for like a hour on and 3 hours off easily, to maintain freezer temperature right? It doesnt have to keep running all the time, this saves bigtime on gas

I hate to say it but maybe you have to decide on the hatchlings. It sounds as if you have your freezers stocked well so maybe look at Storms 1 hour on 3 hours off.

Wasn't getting into your pockets, just looking at the cheaper side.

Power just came back on. Normally when power is out we just run it at night, but the goose eggs are not really replaceable right now. Also I have the 3 inside fish tanks with my breeder tilapia in them, and the aquaponics to deal with.

Shitty to hear about your ordeal, but at least it was a temp one. There's a reason we all do what we do and it doesn't have to involve a zombie outbreak. You've just proved that having a plan, analyzing deficiencies in that plan and seeking to correct this deficiencies is what prepping is all about. Kudos my friend.

Thanks Caveman, power outages are a normal occurrence around my place. Our power has gone out at least 4 times this year, really need to get my solar going.
