Can't wait to get it. It has 600 miles on it since it was rebuilt by the Army in 2008. It comes with the M105A2 trailer. I think I got a decent price I paid 9855 for it. Won it on Ebay.

Not a bad deal IMO. Rebuilt makes a big difference. Trailer to boot.

I was looking around and the trailer by itself goes for over 1500, and a good 5 ton is hard to find under 8k. This one has the CTIS, and the anti lock brakes. Also has less than 800 hours on it. Looking at the mileage vs the hours it has a lot of hwy miles. Most of them have 3 times the hours, with less miles, that tells me those did a lot of convoy and off road time. Plus this one is only 60 miles away from my house. So I won't have to spend a ton on shipping, or diesel.

WOW!! That is awesome!
You haul a lot of cats with that!

Got it home today. Only a few issues that I see. The fuel shut off sticks, not a big deal and I knew about that. The brake lights do not work, probably not a big deal, but will jump into that when I get back from vacation. And the CTIS system does not seem to work, but the tires hold air so it isn't too big a deal. All the lights just flash, so going to have to dig into that. Drives just fine, and will do 65 mph. We drove it around my property a little bit, and even without the 6wd engaged it did not even spin a tire, and we had 4 inches of rain today. Only way I could tell the front diff was engaged was to climb out of a low spot in a turn and I saw the tire spin just a little bit.

helomech

Turns out I forgot the brake lights won't work unless the light switch is on. Going to have to get used to that, but the lights work exactly like they are supposed to.

Went play for a little while today, nothing to hard, but it did it fine without the front diff engaged.

My son driving it.

Got the CTIS working. It was a valve at the right rear tire was blocked. It is working great right now, hope it keeps going. Took the fuel shut off solenoid out, (it was sticking) and I am just using the emergency cable shut off to kill the engine. Also disengaged the automatic 6 wheel engagement when you go to low transfer. Now I can shift to low without engaging the front diff. I can still engage it with the dash mounted switch. Also picked up a 3k pound winch, will be making a hoist on the bed to help load things.

This truck had a some kind of 2 way radio in it. The antenna mount is on the right hand side. Need to figure out what kind of radio to put back in it. All the wiring is there.

bacpacker
07-03-2014, 12:49 PM
Helo you need a dual band and a HF mobile for the ham bands. Plus you got plenty real estate for the antennas.

Got it registered. Taxes where about 400 and some change. Tags cost 320 a year to register it as a normal vehicle. 5 bucks a year to register as former military, but there are so many restrictions. And 160 a year to register it as a farm vehicle. Again restrictions. I just went ahead and registered it so I can legally use it how ever I want. Not to find out if I need to get it inspected. Still not sure about that.

Process was simple, just brought the title and bill of sale in with proof of insurance and got my plates in about 10 minutes.

Oh and for a heads up, getting one of these in the future may prove difficult. The epa has made the government liquidation website shut down all sales of military trucks and generators. Not sure if it permanent or not. They are saying future trucks will have to have the engine ripped out to be sold. Looks like the prices of these are about to go up.

ElevenBravo
07-16-2014, 12:39 AM
Im pretty sure if there is going to be a restriction, it will be with GovLiq and NOT with any that are already in circulation.

Im pissed the HMMWVs are being chopped and not sold... BUT... after driving them for 15 years, Id put my old K5 diesel Blazer up against one for 1) Off road ability and 2) safety.

HMMWV are... pretty much, a death trap.

But Id still drive one like I stole it... :-)

Kinda funny, The other day at work, a couple Semi's came in to pick up a shipment, but they already had a partial load on theie trailers. Made me think of you Helo:

Funniest thing is, about a half dozen co-workers came up to me and said that my shipment has arrived, or asked if I was expecting anything. lol.

We will probably be taking it to the mud park this weekend. Building a ramp to get the side by side and the 4 wheeler in. Probably going to use the trailer as a ramp to get the big red into the back of the truck and put the 4 wheeler in the trailer. Going to take some pics when I get it done.
