I just finished ordering a new Tomahawk. I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Weapons, but, realistically, a Tomahawk will likely be used 98% of the time as a tool, and perhaps 2% as a weapon.
Therefore, really, it's more of a tool than a weapon.
I already own one of these: http://www.americantomahawk.com/products/vtac.htm

I like it, but it is more of a weapon than a tool, excepting being a breaching tool. What I mean is it's not really practical as a "field tool". I want one that works as a field tool, but can be a weapon if needed.

So, having just sold a firearm, I am using the funds to get one of these: http://www.2hawks.net/tomahawks/warbeast-military-grade-tomahawk/

I'll probably sell the VTAC once I have the other.
As the sheaths offered are leather, I declined and will make a cordura one. I know, the "bushcrafter" says leather, but the "shtf prepper" says cordura for long term durability.

Yes, there will be pics, however, since they are handmade, I am not sure yet if it is in stock, or I will have to wait for it to be made.

That is one sweet hawk. Bookmarked it for future reference.

I have a cold steel hawk with a hammer poll. I like it pretty well, but it's crap compared to that one.

Well, I looked around and finally decided that I would probably end up with only one hawk, so I decided not to settle for anything less than what I wanted. I've spent 3 months or more working to finally get it.

This is my first tapatalk post. A software upgrade finally makes it work.

Good looking blade. There used to be a company back when I was in the scouts, that sold knife blades, hawks, all kinds of stuff that was pretty good quality in the mountain man genre of knives and tools. I can't for the life of me remember what the company was, but it was mail order, pre-Internet days.

Oh wow. That thing is gorgeous!

I want a new one myself, of similar price. Now I have to compare the two because I didn't see this one when I found it! Lol. Thanks Gf!

I really am torn now. This has just been something I've kept in the back of my head, but that really is a pretty hawk. I'll just drop my initial find here for comparison ;) They both have desirable features.

I got an email most of a week ago now, 9 week wait. So, the review will be awhile coming. I am certain it will be worth it. Certainly better than the almost year wait for my can.

I bookmarked the site for the woodsman hawk! GF, good find! I guarantee that if I get one from them i won't be playing a game of handles with it.

Yeah, he has a lot of very nice hawks. I specifically wanted more of the curved Viking style blade, and the hammer poll, so that left one choice. There is a lighter, slightly smaller version, but it is without the hammer poll.
So, the Warbeast it is.

Welcome back Grumpy

Life and health issues have gotten in the way. And I've just been plain busy, but I'm still here.

Good steel is worth it's weight in gold when you need it. As a curiosity how do you plan on sharpening it consistently? With that blunt of a blade I would assume just a good file a couple times a year with steady use, or do you plan on trying to keep it razor sharp?

Well, it arrived today !!!!!
A week or maybe two before really expected, which I certainly don't mind.
I ordered it without the paracord wrapping, as I wanted to feel the handle as is before deciding whether it needed to be fatter or not. It has a nice feel to it, it only weighs about 1 1/2 lbs, so it's not real heavy at all.
Both the primary and secondary edges are quite sharp as delivered. The wood of the handle is hard enough I can only barely mark it with a fingernail.
Anyway, on to the pics.
