So there I am driving down the street on garbage day, When a beautiful green metal object catches my eye. I pull over to check on my find. I walked away with this Coleman 425e camp stove in near perfect condition with a full fuel tank...and it still works. Im as giddy as a school girl and cant wait to use it camping the first time.

Damn right OP wins! Free beats $20 every day!

I keep my eyes out for curbside grills, 60% of the time, the PROPANE TANK is still attached. Ill slam on the brakes for a propane tank!!!

assuming it is out of date... what does it cost you to re-cert a tank down there???

Trade them in on a new full bottle. Maybe 20 bucks.

Great find on the stove. It looks great.

I have two of these and you can't beat them. That looks beautiful, grab you a couple of gallons while you can. Also if you look on the bottom you'll find a two digit date stamp (month and year)

Do you know how long the white gas is good for in storage? I already have a couple gallons for lanterns but its a few years old now.

I have a few gallons that are several years old that still work normally.

white gas stores indefinitely. keep air out of it, I have some from 28 years ago that works perfectly!

Coleman fuel (AKA white gas) is actually naptha, one of the components of what is called gasoline. It generally stores quite well, but I keep the metal cans sealed with their original seals, just to be sure. I've used Coleman fuel that is really, really old (like 30 years or more) without trouble.

And the Coleman white gas stoves are great! Spare parts are commonly available, and they are easy to repair if needed. One thing I have for all of mine (I have 5 or 6 of different ages and sizes) is an adapter that allows use of propane cylinders instead of the tank and white gas - it fits into the same spot as the tank generator, and stows in the stove http://www.amazon.com/StanSport-185-Stansport-Propane-Converter/dp/B004RDQT92/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1410402134&sr=8-15&keywords=coleman+stove+accessories

I save my seafoam 'cans' and fill them with my naptha jugs... then add a durlon seal, and store them accordingly. the cans are perfect for a weekend camping trip, store beautifully, and are easy to fill from!

take it step further and get an adapter to hook up the large 5 gallon (20lb) BBQ tanks .... pays to have re-fill adapter for those small 1lb tanks .... fill them from the 5 gallon tanks and save a ton of $$$$$$

I too have a propane adapter, and use it from time to time, I bought mine at WalMart about 10 years ago, and it has ALWAYS worked flawlessly!

I have used it both from 1lb baby tanks and 20lb BBQ tanks with hose, works a full treat!

The propane adapter adds to the flexibility of an already awesome stove!

I am totally sold on ALL Coleman products, even though the newer stuff is not the same as the vintage, I have continued to be 100% satisfied!

I have 1 Coleman stoves, 2 military gas lanterns, 2 civilian gas lanterns and 2 propane lanterns... NONE of which has EVER failed me yet!

GO COLEMAN!

Hmm... I dont... If I get an old tank I take it to the local stop-n-rob that has the tank swap stand outside, the cashier never knows the difference (between old style tank and new style tank).
I swap tanks for $19, end of story.

I just found a two burner propane stove for $20, but its missing some parts. I know I need a pressure regulator, so my question is: what else do I need?

Oh, I almost forgot, my boss found me checking it out and told me he has the kerosene version at home that he'll bring in and give to me :D

sweet score from the boss! Don't know about the propane ones, so good luck, and post up what you find out. I may be looking for an adapter too.

Nice...if you can, post a picture of the stove: I'm not sure what you mean by the pressure regulator. Normally a 1# bottle screws right into the generator tube, it has the regulator built in.

If you're missing the generator tube, it's a single replacement piece with the control knob.

And of course, NEVER burn white gas in the kero model.......

You might go on line to the Coleman site and check to see if they can help you. I would think they would have diagrams of the different stoves or customer service should be able to help.

I wish I had bought more stuff with the employee discount when I did IT for sunbeam/Coleman/Oster back in 2000-2001. I had a STUPID discount, like 75% off.

Its model # 5430b700, and I'm coming up short on the regulator, which appears the be the only part I'm missing. I'm going to call the store on Monday to see if it was mistakenly set aside, because it was tagged as tested in October. At the same time, I want a back up plan.

It was made 02 97.

It definitely needs a good cleaning as well. I'll get to that, but for now, here it is

I do believe all it is missing is the regulator, but even oldcolemanparts showed no results. Thanks for the wealth of info ya'll are sharing though. Its been an interesting education even thus far.

that LP bottle hook up is really expensive to replace - usually stored under that burner plate - I'd get my $$$ back if they can't find it .....

Thanks rat.

I ended up ordering a regulator for the 1# bottles, and a hose for the refillable tanks

You can also get a quasi-legal filler for the 1# bottles from the tanks, http://www.amazon.com/Shnozzle-SAFEST-Propane-Adapter-Cylinders/dp/B00EV59S1W/ref=pd_sim_468_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=518soaF9lmL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=164P07H2P75JZWN8T26D

quasi-legal because the 1# bottles are not supposed to be refilled and transported

and I like the pole I can attach to the big tanks and run hoses off of, with a propane lantern on the top:

http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-30-Inch-Propane-Distribution-Tree/dp/B0009PURNG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451232510&sr=8-2&keywords=propane+pole

annnddd I'm happy to say it works. I don't have any 1# bottles on hand at the moment, but the adapter to a 20# went great.

Just an FYI for all of us that use Coleman Fuel or white gas appliances:
Usually, the place you bought it from says you cannot return it if it has ever had fuel in it. Fat lot of good that does you when you fill up your brand new stove and it leaks. BEFORE you fill it up with fuel, fill it with water. Plain old H2O. Pressurize it and check for leaks. If it has a leak, completely dry it out and return it. I wont smell like gas so you cannot be refused. If you got no leaks, drain and dry it out, use normally.

Sniper-T
01-04-2016, 05:32 PM
if you did put fuel in and had to return it, just leave the tank uncapped and the valves open. in a couple days, there will be no smell.
