Just make sure you cook them thoroughly.

I've used these things since we moved to the country 8 years ago, but outside, late in the fall. keep the mice away from the house and that keeps them out of the house!

Mine are a simpler version though... basically eliminate the whole pop bottle/roller system. Just a plank up to the pail, or the pail beside a fallen tree. A buddy uses them at his remote cabin beside the couches. just put a good smear of pb about 3 inches down the inside of the pail, all around, if you use a plank put some under it where it overhangs the pail. put 3" of water in the pail.

I set up 4 every fall, and catch 2-300 per pail over a course of a couple weeks. check and dump regularly, or they do start to smell.

I skin them out and am making a coat for my wife... ;)

the carcases... cat bait!

Man, it just amazes me the amount of talent that we have in the colony! It's open season on squirrel here. After all the work that Domeguy and I did on my Apple Barn, the damn squirrels just chewed their way back in. Now,everyone I see in the vicinity of said building will become compost.

Score: 2-0

Maybe some type of metal sheeting around the areas prone for the squirrls getting in?? I dont think it would need to be thick.. Any other ideas?

Yeah well they decided to lift the metal roofing and gnaw through the facia board. So come spring I'll be putting on some new metal roofing on the ends and a gable cap on the damn thing so in the mean time it's hunting season. I for one don't believe in shooting something unless your going to eat it, but this is where my patience has worn thin. So I'll feed the "predators" down in the hollow with squirrel and I'll get rid of my termites. Besides I 'll keep my occupational skills up to standards.

Give them an alternative! like killing mice outside my house to keep them from getting in. make an 'applepile' a short ways away with your spoiling/substandard ones, and they wont be so apt to work for their food. Keep in mind that deer also like apples. as do birds and a host of other meat bearing creatures.

option 2... Bang! A predator isn't limited to meat eaters, a squirrel eating/despoiling a food source/damaging a structure, is a predator in my world. I say again... Bang!

Oh, and squirrel is good eats... grab head in one hand, ruff of neck in other, and pull down... skinned. cut off backstraps and hind legs, and toss em in a crockpot with your bunny or chicken parts... yum yum!

Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!... Bang!

jus' sayin'

Now if there ever was a more perfect time to make a positive comment for our fury feline friends usage...I pause here for dramatic effect......

This is why cats deserve all out love...so they can fill their tummy with Mr. T's home made recipe of slow cooked crock pot squirrel and fixings with 11 secret herbs and spices. Yum! Please pass me a bisect.

That's really part of country living though, isn't it? I would much prefer to eat what I shoot myself, but predators are a different story, whether they have 4 legs or 2...

I see squirells destroying your structures as predatory. Ditto most any fur bearer I choose to trap.

Everything in its season, and all that
