Many of you are in places that actually get winter and probably don't need to know or care but for those of you like me who are not so lucky.........

I would like to inform you that scorpion populations are on the rise, they can fit through the smallest cracks and while most species are not deadly they hurt like all fucking hell.

My reason for posting this is I had a bad night last night so I feel it is my duty to inform you that they are phosphorescent, meaning they will glow under a black light.

Due to my unusual sleeping patterns after surgery I was using the facilities at 0300 and managed to find one of these delightful little creatures that were kind enough to let me know of it's presence by stinging me 2 times in rapid succession. After turning on the light and killing it, I scooped up it's bits and my neighbor was kind enough to drive me to the ER to see that it was a very common though not deadly species of scorpion.

Today I installed black lights in strategic spots throughout the house on times that go on whenever it is dark.

Seeing that this is as close to winter as we get, they are coming inside to stay warm. I just found another a few minutes ago which is what prompted this post hoping this may help any of you unlucky enough to live in a place like this.

We have the little brown ones here. Now that we have chickens and guinea I don't see them much any more though. Found a few in the bath tub, and saw some run across the floor a few times. Have not got stung yet.

man, sorry you found out about them that way. they are all over Florida range in color almost clear to a medium brown and length from 3/4" to 2". and yes, all glow in black light. hit one with a red or green laser. it looks cool.

My brother lived in his wife's grandfather's farm house for a few years, and the shower diverter had quit requiring only baths. I'm taking a bath, and look up at the shower head, and think to myself "self, I sure hope that scorpion doesn't fall off the shower head". All of a sudden, plop! Right between my legs. You should have seen how fast I sloshed up and out of that tub. Lol

I heard that cedarcide sprinkled around the outside of the house helps deter scorpions, but we don't have a lot of them here.

Was raised in Florida, it was no biggie to me growing up. Funny story, was stationed in Mayport, Fl on the Saratoga CV-60 (aircraft carrier, they had Tom Cats Sniper) she was my first ship. Anyway, I used to run the carpenter shop on there. Second deployment to the Med. I hade made me a Plexiglass and mahogany framed box, Terarrium if you will. Well I captured me a pair of my little brown scorpion buddies there and took them with me. They had a nice little place on my desk there in the shop. One of the Cooks Harry'O always brought me cock roaches to keep them fed. They had a nice 7 month deployment. I let them go when we got back. Stupid officers looked right in the box during every damn zone inspection, never saw the things. Told them it was sand and rocks and sticks from Arizona, keep me from getting home sick. I'm from fuckin Florida, idiots. I guess I might have gott in a bit of trouble, orrrrrr, could have found another dumb officer.

Cedarcide?

Here's some info on their scorpion specific formula. Everything they make is made of red cedar, and it's oil

I found one tucked up in my helmet after leaning on a tree on a hot day in texas. I felt ants on me so I pulled the helmet off and the there it was, between my nape protector and the Kevlar. Also had found one after picking up a chock block. I'm glad they're not up here in PA, makes the 0 degree days bearable knowing no scorpions.

Mythical creature known throughout parts of Canada and USSR (Same latitude). On the ground they are almost impossible to see, but they sometimes hunt from trees, and show themselves off.
A mid-sized female:

A young one:

Their bite though not poisonous per se, causes the blood to run cold and if the victom doesn't get treated immediately, death by hypothermia is frequent...

not my pics, I generally don't like to get that close... they're fast and once off the tree, near invisible. On hardpack, you can sometimes see their trail, or in fresh shallow snow, but they can burrow down into 4' of snow and leave no visible tracks until the are on you, or for the bigger ones until the flip a snowmobile, or skier... and feed!!!

Ha! Little do you know, they're right here in Tennessee. Only fatter, more aggressive and the have big nasty teeth. Like I said on the other post, I dispatched this sucker with a measly knife the other morning before they could get to LadyHK chickens. Bunch-a-sissys I tell ya.

that's fine when they're alone, the are usually pretty docile... if you look at the ground in my pics you'll see tracks, breathing holes and beds. This is an infestation area, of which I personally have seen hundreds in a single tree!!

When in packs, their demeanor changes.

And remember BWRR, I only posted pics of a female and a youth... your pic is of an adolescent male, and the runt of the litter... at best!

Remember... up here they overturn snowmobiles, quad-trax, and even bombardiers!!

When crossing roads, they've been known to ditch cars and even trucks. I know of one incident where a fully loaded semi hit a series of them and basically turned his truck into roadkill!

scary stuff!

Ha! I call your bluff Yaksman! They're not even your pics, I took care of this my self. You compare these serpents to the common North American gangbanger. Total chicken shits when they are by themselves but real bad asses when they are in packs. You didn't notice that I cut it half first either did ya? You didn't even get near them did ya? Maybe I shoulda put my ugly mug in there too but due to OPSEC I have to refrain from that.
