This is going to be pretty picture heavy but here goes. Initial pictures of my sewing machine!!

Pretty rusty foot pedal and lower parts.

Notice the water damage from some idiot setting a drink on it?

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/Dragonsworn_2006/10325575_10153163719762421_5830697212431371072_n_z ps5nnfwmrq.jpg (http://s59.photobucket.com/user/Dragonsworn_2006/media/10325575_10153163719762421_5830697212431371072_n_z ps5nnfwmrq.jpg.html)

I don't think the filigree can be saved. Not sure what to do. I cleaned it a bit more today and the scarabs in the center of the machine just started wiping away with next to no pressure so I oiled it and let it sit for now.

DISASSEMBLED!!!!

This is my main concern. These bearings are from the wheel underneath and are shot.

Backside of the machine is almost pristine!

All the lower parts laid out

Wood cabinet is in good shape.

Anybody got a fix for these without completely refinishing?

Tiger Oak, or more common "Quaternary sawn oak" wood. Looks nice. Not sure about the stains without refinishing. For bearing, which may be tough where you are located, try http://www.bearings direct.comor http://www.timken.com.

That's the type of wood? All i know is light and dark. lol.

The bearings are what concern me. I might be able to find some modern ones and modify the shaft to fit them.

Even worn the filigree should be saved. You might consider putting a clear coat over the top to protect it from further damage. I would take the bearings to a sewing machine store they will probably have a place you can get replacements. One of the stores we use they will completely restore old machines just to keep them running. The nice thing is they will also give up their secrets as to where to get stuff to keep them going too. If you don't ask they will never volunteer the information.

This is the bearing setup I need. The problem is the radius on the inside and the fitting for the cone on the outside.

Where in the world would I find the model number on these things?

It's not like an enclosed bearing. That's all I'm used to. The ball bearings are exposed on the inside and that's what the cone rides on

It has a 1/8 radius on the inside of the bearing, looks like a typical ball bearing except that it has a centering cone the fits onto a 12mm rod. The centering cone has 12mm ID with a 45 degree angle going to a .75 OD with a pin to keep it from spinning on the shaft.

And Realist, I haven't had a drop of alcohol in almost 3 months.

No alcohol? That is either good or bad. If that is good then congratulations are in order, it it is bad then forget the former.........

have you tried oiling the wood?

An ex-GF did something similar with an oak desk I have, and it wasn't actually stained, but the heat drew the finish out. a few applications of oil and discolouration was gone.

I would dive into the sewing and sewing machine groups on the web. I'm sure someone there could point you to the exact replacement parts you need, but beware, you may end up involved in some pretty shady characters. You may very well end up sewing your own dresses.

Realist-It's a good thing before and after surgery.

ST-I got some old english dark wood. I'm going to try that before anything else.

DG-I thought about it but I haven't been able to find a really active group. I emailed a few bearing companies though to see if they had anything.

Nope, nothing. Can't even find anything that looks like them on any of the websites.
