Considering that in many SHTF scenarios, ATMs will not be operable, how many of you keep a stash of cash on hand? I am just curious (no, I am not going to rob you!) how much you keep on hand. We have $200 in paper money and a little over $50 in coin. Obviously this will not last long in a long term SHTF situation, but I figure it should get us through a couple or weeks or so.

A valid point. At a guess, a fair number of preppers stay on pretty much a cash-only basis. Bear in mind that cash, in a long term SHTF, will not only not last long, it will become worthless.

Some PM stackers have this in mind when they stack.

We do keep some cash on hand. We save our change which can vary for $50 - 500 bucks. We try to keep 300 to 500 folding money between us for emergencies. Sometimes you can swing a barging with cash for some stuff too.

My goal is to keep 10k on hand at all times. Got over half that now.

I only keep about 500 in cash but I do mostly silver.

I got about six bucks. Wish I could do more, damned health insurance is legalized rape.

I don't count PM's in my cash. That'll be for a last resort.

I try to keep about 400-600 in cash and coin hidden in plain sight. I had DH try to find it before I let him know where it was. Had the brother that was in security(Air Force One) try to find it last time he was here. He couldn't find it either. AND the meany that I am wouldn't tell him where I hid it. He was going thru books, wall plates, the duct work, etc. You should have seen him Ha Ha.

Precious metals

I agree. Lead, copper, zinc. Don't forget nitrates, too

I'll keep the lead in bullet form but I think that even common metals will be hard to come by after a long term event.

I an still trying to hoard as much lead as I can get. Right now I've got about 35 lbs. But I don't feel right bartering with something that the same person can then turnaround later and use against me. I've heard of others willing to barter with bullets, but if would have to be VERY desperate to do so.

I finally got to a point where we feel fairly comfortable. A little over $400 is put away in a couple of places in the home. About 1/2 in folding money and half in coin.
