Very interesting read on a guy who just went into the forest and came out 27 years later, he was arrested. He did survive by living off others around him but he said he only said "Hi" one time during that time to another hiker.

Enjoy

Interesting. Proves that one alone can survive, but not without 'assistance'... or at least in his case. With a bow, or a slingshot and some fishing gear (and the knowledge to use them) He could have been less conspicuous, at least to the locals, but possibly more so as well. Less visibility at night, but people notice theft, out during the day, people may notice him, particularly in Winter (tracks, blood trails, etc)

The whole 'no-fire' thing would be difficult; and possibly could be attributed to his lack of camping knowledge prior to his 'outing', but then again, given his close proximity to local cottages, even a smokeless fire may be detected by sight, sound and/or smell, especially whilst cooking.

kudos to him for going off grid, per se... but without the unwitting support of the local community I doubt if he would have survived more than a month.
