I don't know if something like this has been posted previously, I did not find it, but did not search the entire forum.

I was originally taught this back when I was about 11 or 12 years old. It is an excellent way to make a campfire. It is what you would want if you need to try to keep your location secret or protect your fire from winds. I was taught it to keep the wind from spreading embers into the forest and causing fires.

If you want to do this, you need to practice it, do not wait until your life depends on it to try it.

http://www.shtfready.com/threads/3699-1st-attempt-at-a-Dakota-fire-pit?highlight=dakota+fire I did a small scale one and really liked how it worked. A bigger scale one is in the works soon.
