Heading to Kansas on Tuesday for Karate camp near Great Bend. Going to stop in Mcconnell Air Force base to visit my son for 2 days, then go to Great Bend. 3 days of training 12 hours each day. Going to be doing a lot of Haganah, and selfdefense training. Looking forward to it.

helo, question for ya... As I've seen pics of you, and would deem you at about a buck-forty. given your karate training, how would you define yourself against a 220lb attacker? or more. How does your training relate to the real world, where there are no weight classes?

Do you train above and beyond your level?

Are you, as Royce Gracie, training to defeat an animal like Kimbo slice? Is this a scenario you train for? ie, mid weight you vs super heavy weight him!

no disrespect, just don't know the belt system.

my nephew was 'black belt tkd, at 12, and I could hand his ass to him regularly. how does that work?

Also... do you train against other disciplines... or just karate?

I actually weigh 185 lbs, just barely under 6 foot, with about 10 percent body fat. We don't train to stand their and fight. We train to end the encounter as fast as possible. We are not a sport karate like most are. We train to break bones, take out groins, break necks, take out eyes, throats and so on. We do not really train to hit anywhere that is legal in MMA or tournaments. I have no doubt I can handle myself against most people on the streets, even those that outweigh me by lots. I regularly spar guys that are higher belts than me, and one that is 6'4 and about 260. He will beat me, but not by a lot.

All of our training is for real world attacks, from knives, to guns to empty hands. We also train with lots of weapons. Size is a lot less of a factor than most think, unless you plan to stand their and trade punches or have lots of rules. On the street where there are no rules, the size of the opponent means a lot less. I don't care how big someone is, one kick to the knee, or one punch to the throat, groin, eyes or similar things will end the fight. Reading your opponent is one of the main things. Most people broadcast their moves, and by that I mean they will step back to kick, or drop a shoulder to punch. Most will look with their eyes where the want to hit. If you can read these clues than it is easy to not get hit. Also you must fight at least 3 moves ahead of where you are.

As far as most black belts, that does not mean much. Lots of dojos are in it for the money and the faster they can get you to black belt the more they can make. also the kids in our class are taught not to think they can beat an adult and we regularly spar with them, just to show them that a adult with no belt will usually beat them in a fight.

Here is a pic of my wife and I training with a different dojo recently. I am on the left wearing the tank top. Not a big guy for sure, but going to the gym 6 days a week to get stronger. Not too worried about size, just want speed and strength.

The older white guy in the middle is a Kenpo master, the one to his left the younger Korean guy is a master in takwando (spelling) that recently joined our dojo to learn shorin ryu. He invited us over to train with them. The Okinawan guy with the long beard is in my dojo and trained in Okinawa, as did my sensei

Just found out camp was canceled. That sucks, but we are still going visit mys on in Kansas, just going to come home after. Only good thing is that now I will be home for opening of rifle season.
