Just thought I'd throw this out to you . I've played with words since I was about 10 or 11 years old.
And being that I'm growing long in the tooth I figure why not get some true opinions of my thoughts.

Henceforth I give you ( And so it was )

And so it was
Though they said it wasn't
But yet others said it was
And no one knew the truth :

For unto them was given wisdom
For unto them was given truth
Yet they sought out philosophy
Instead of their history :

Never encouraged to find their roots
Only the lives that fit them best
Having never worn the combat boot
Wanting only life's best :

Safe and sound with in their beds
Not caring if my brother is alive or dead
His broken body do I carry
To the chopper waiting :

Oh Great Spirit hear my plea
If you must save one
Let it be he and take my soiled soul to thee :

If I live a thousand years
My soul's worth ; Is less than he
For my brother is more than life
He's my reason to give my life :

Freedom is as freedom does
Fight today and live free tomorrow
Forget not the battle
Forget not death's rattle
Unto Valhalla does my being soar :

To many I'm a dinosaur
To others ; I'm a curiosity
Who is he who cares not to live or die ?
This is the question ; That brings tears to my eyes :

If you care not for your brother's life
What right do you have to live
I have his 6 as he has mine
It's not about a matter of living
As it is ; About quality time :

I feel ya man, I use it to deal with "stuff" thats doing nascar laps in my brain.

How long have I been trying, to live up to my name?
Aware that something been missing, that for me it’s not the same.
Wondering that if maybe, in my quest to prove that I’m a man,
Knowing it for myself, means more than making them understand.

I am the Hawk, I am proud and I am strong.
I have soared above the many lands
I have always flown alone
My eyes are piercing glare, my talons they are steel.
I strike with the speed of light,
No mercy will I feel.

The skies have been my haven, my shelter form the earth.
I have hidden in its openness,
Above all since my birth.
No one shall ever capture me, nor bring me to my knees,
My strength is all they see.

And yet my wings grow weary, my heart begins to tire.
The reasons with were once so clear,
My mind begins to mire.
I long to know if this is all, I’m ever meant to be,
Destined to ever fly alone,
No rest, nor care for me.

With firm resolve and head held high, I once again take flight.
Breaking through these chains I’ve forged,
I struggle with all my might.
The honesty for which I’ve fought, drawing what strength I can,
In truth I’m but a man.

A heart as strong as wings which beat, yet feathersoft,
Its courage and a will to dream,
Which carry me aloft.
No longer caged by myth nor lies, I care not what they see,
The hawk has set me free.

I didn't serve
I didn't fight
I didn't do
What you saw as right

I didn't go
To fight the war
I didn't see
All of the gore

I didn't lose
My brother in arms
As your brothers
Died within your arms

I didn't serve
As did you
And now I can only say
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Stormfeather

Perched upon the mountain high
Scanning the valley floor below
Is he with the hawk's eyes
While his life ebbs and flows :

Upon the winds do his feathers soar
Searching the corridors of his mind
War time ; peace time evermore
Wondering if there's hope for mankind :

Life's a puzzle and the journey's a maze
Too much death in so few days
Can he find the peace with in his soul ?
Great Spirit chose him from days of old :

And gave him talons with the razor's edge
Eyes to see what others don't
Feathered his wings so he could soar
A heart of the warrior and the blood of mercy :

Troubled days with cold hard nights
Seeking answers as to why
Man should kill and innocents die
With the memories of his brothers fallen :

Yet he awakes and carries on
For deep with in his heart he knows
It was not he who chose the part
But great spirit who chose him :

In the fire of his birth was he given the storm
In the fire of his birth was he given feathers to soar
Strength to carry on although he mourns
This is the warrior who prays life gets better :

So through the fog and through the haze
Will he still fly and scan the valley floor
In search of the refuge to calm his soul
And ease his burdened days :

Proud to know the one
Called Storm feather :

Now, I deem them akin with 'flander's fields'
