I did a search but did not find anything on this. It is time I am going to starting storing some additional things which are used every day but will not store well. One of these things is peanut butter. If you have ever opened up an old container of peanut butter you know what I mean. Has anyone used peanut butter powder? I was wondering on how it is prepared and how it tastes? What is the best brand?

Additionally I am also looking at shortening, eggs, milk and any other of the powdered foods. I am looking for what it the best. I do not care if it cost more I want something we will eat? Thanks

I am pretty sure that I have never heard of powdered peanut butter, and just googled it.

Sounds interesting. Thread tagged for interest.

Anyone try to make it?

On more than one occasion I have consumed peanut butter that was beyond the "Best By" date by quite sometime. Not the greatest tasting as the oil turns rancid. If a powder that is mixed would have the same nutritional value as "fresh" peanut butter that could be a great item!

I haven't tried it yet, but just last week looked up PB powder and butter powder from Honeyville.com. Prices isnt bad, just never tried it before. Although Honeyville has always gotten great reviews from all I have saw.

I agree it's time to start putting back lots more dried good.

Thanks IW. After doing some research it sounds like it will be pretty good, not the same as the real thing but I'm going to try it. I will let you know when I get it. The nice thing is you just add water. I saw were people side it was good in just about anything such as yogurt, on bananas, and a variety of baked goods.

But what about on a piece of sliced white bread? For me, that is the real test.

That is a given, got to have it on bread. I guess it will not melt on the toast. If has got to work for a PB&J or it is not PB.

Hey IW is the milk good? That is another thing I am going to want to try. I figure the peanut butter, shortening and milk I can get assimilate into our daily life and my wife might go for it. Now the kids are out of the house we have a hard time using things up. So if it will keep longer she just might go with it.

I just finished reading about shortening and it looks good. That is one thing we use a lot of seasonally so if I can extend its life that would be good. The article says it makes great cookies and pie crusts.

I'm not much of a judge on the dry milk - I only use 2% regular milk and it doesn't equal to full fat milk .... but I know some families swear by the LDS dry milk - they say adding a bit of vanilla extract to any of the dry milk helps fill out the taste - I have a supply tagged for the purpose ....

I'd certainly buy a small can before going whole hog on a bucket - if you have kids involved they need to be a consideration .....

interesting site devoted to cooking using stored food - lots of good info/planning besides the recipes

Ive said it before, but here goes... Just about every grocery store Ive been to sells Nestle Nido milk in the mexican isle.. This stuff is damn near moo cow milk! Ive drank it out the glass (colder is better) and its pretty damn good. Ive cooked with it, works fine.. cant tell you didnt use real milk! Wife even used it before, and shes not open to using stuff like that as a basis.

Put it this way, dry no fat milk taste like CHALK! Nido taste AWESOME compared!

The wife uses powdered peanut butter. It is nothing like normal peanut butter.

Nothing I can do will make it taste or take the consistency of normal peanut butter. I've tried a ton of different things. It's fine when mixed with other items though, like milk or cookies.

seems to be questions about the different milks available ... the UTuber is a bit of a babbler but the info is there if you stick with it ....

here's a bit of USA Emergency Supplies reference section - gives a good background on milk & dairy

We have powdered peanut butter. Makes great milkshakes especially if ya add banana and chocolate! Yummy. Can't stand that Nilda dry milk. Just threw away a full container of it. I'm a real milk girl I guess and it has to be ice cold. Super funny about milk. Haven't found a powder I like yet....maybe I should hammer it with chocolate to make it palatable. Think guys are easier to get to eat and drink stuff that is a little 'iffy' (some even eat cat).
