Anyone belong?

As part of the 'networking' suggestion from the HR consultants, I joined.

I haven't used it in quite sometime and just recently got back on. I will go in a search for you. I need to look around and come up with some tips.

Sent to you

You can type in names up top in the search box and look up various things. Look in the drop box.

Up top of the page you should see some icons, people, flag, pages. You should have a red number in one of them.

You do work for Howden?

Sniper I joined when I retired. I did get a bunch of spam so I was not sure if it was worth it. Periodically I get requests which if I know the people I will grant. I do not have much on it. This past weekend I taught a class up in Oregon and one of the students commented he researched me on Linkedin. It was positive so I guess it was worth it. I'd love to help you out but I do not use it enough.

For someone hoping to one day find a new, better job... is LI a tool to that end? Or is it like myspace, a waste of time?

Sniper. Sorry for bailing out so quick last night. Got called in to work...for the first time in 8 years. I'll get back to this tonight.

no worries.

according to the HR consultants that my company hired, over 80% of career opportunities are never advertised. either the hr dept or head hunters find prospects on here.

I am leery, but giving it a shot.

That is 100% true at my place, well not quite. They do have a jobs page on the website, but not sure I'd call that advertising. There are a lot off headhunter companies. Finding a good, reputable one will help considerably.

For retired folks looking be a part-time job Linked-in is okay. However when it comes to younger people getting their career started it works very well. My son has got numerous hits on his site and has a permanent job now.

What is LinkedIn?
It is a source for employers to look at for possible hires. It also provides information to those seeking work. Finally it allows companies to look at other companies.

I have been on linked in for awhile now. My suggestion to those that join is a simple one. KNOW how you are accepting links with. This is the reasoning behind the statement. People will ask you to introduce them to one of your links. If you dont know them then that shows how reliable you are.

I have started my company LinkedIn as well. Here is the information on me and LazerQuest.

Co-owner LazerQuest, LLC (HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet Service and Supplies)

Greater Denver Area
Information Technology and Services

And this is my business link as well.

I'm on there. No idea why. Nobody in the area I'm moving to is on there.
