For a SHTF situation I agree. However in our state this would be considered a booby trap which is illegal, a felony. So I would say if you wanted to practice building them just don't leave them up.

I think that is the same in every state. Just like punji pits. Someone could accidentally wander into them.

On the other hand you are allowed to use bear traps in michigan and one of those could easily kill someone, just not instantly.

This would be illegal here too, as are pungi pits, but bear traps are legal most places.

If SHTF then all rules are out the window, and something like this becomes viable.
