So far I have planted 2 rows of taters, 3 rows of onions, 1 row of beets, & 1 row of cabbage. I'll be starting my tomatos and peppers very soon. Probably a little late but I don't plan to plant them until early May. Everything else will go straight in the ground.

It's a weird weather year, don't be afraid to plant a little late. I just lost all my basil because the weather man missed his low by 3*. Had I known, i woulda carried everything in. My taters that were up got burned on top, but I had mounded them up the day before, so not too bad.

Today I planted mammoth dill, bush beans, immortality herb, another 10 strawberries, I mulched my Nanking cherries which might actually produce a handful of berries this year (yay) I planted a "raspberry Anne" yellow raspberry which brings me to 6 raspberry, 8 blackberry, 3 loganberry, 2 Aronia berry, 3 goji berry, 2 hardy kiwi, 1 grape, 1 plum, 1 peach, 1 fig, 3 Nanking cherry, 1 pear cocktail, and a plum, peach, necatrine cocktail tree. Lots of onions, various herbs, 60 strawberries, lettuce, spinach, 3 kinds of taters (red, purple, white kennebec) pulled a wad of carrots from a global bucket that we planted in the fall and required ZERO maintenance after planting. Lots of maters on the way soon, lost 4 peppers to a late frost this week, so that's awesome.

Carrots in a global bucket??? interesting. how many did you plant in the pail?

Shit! I hadn't thought of running my global buckets indoors in the winter damn!

I'm going to look at a lighting system, and establishing a group of global buckets for next winter. May also have to look at a closed circuit water heating system off 12V too.

Damn... going to start a new thread on this.

I planted a whole package of seeds in this bucket with the intention of thinning it once they got up and running. I didn't get around to thinning it. The painting biz has been so busy, I just never got around to it. The result? I got about 45 carrots. I'd say 10 are regular size 6-10 inch, 20 are 5-6 inch, and 15 were fat little 3-4 inch. We didn't really pant these to have a super supply of carrots, we actually just wanted to see how they'd do in a bucket since we were unimpressed by tomatoes in them.

AK, I typically don't plant some of my stuff, tomatos, peppers, and such until May, so not really worried about being late. I had an Aunt that always said to not plant till the ground gets warm. It just delays the plant growth because of the shock of cold ground.

Got the 9 global buckets in the yard set up yesterday, in the boxes that I made last fall:

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/Sniper-T/garden/2016/0605161401a_zpsyoeoyaub.jpg (http://s605.photobucket.com/user/Sniper-T/media/garden/2016/0605161401a_zpsyoeoyaub.jpg.html)

I still have to plant flowers in the front to hopefully attract some bees, and add the upper frame to tie the tomatoes to so they don't fall over.

Also got my hoy peppers planted (Ghost, Portuguese, Match, and Jalapino):

No pics yet, but also got my sweet bells planted, and put the critter fences up on my carrots and beets, and hot peppers.

Man those bucket boxes are nice. I'm gonna make a 3 sided cedar surround to hide the ugly of the buckets since they sit almost against a wall it only needs 3 sides. I made some boxes for individual ones last year that sit on top of the same wall, and they look good, but they're just fence board and 2x2 cedar.

yeah, they are definitely wife approved! she loved the idea of the buckets from day one, but hated the looks of them. Once she gets flowers planted in the front, she's gonna like the boxes even more! :)

This is some of what I started from seeds early this year. Already started my second crop of radishes. I am pretty pumped about what I have pulled of this year.

Nice work guys. that stuff looks awesome. I am so happy to see the work you all are putting in is paying off.

No pics, but I picked the first of our onions tonight. About a third of my Copra's. They mostly were a decent small to medium onion. Also picked a few Early Flat Dutch cabbage, and several leaf lettuce plants.

Taters are starting to die off, so I'm gonna gravel a few hills this weekend and see how they are making. Tomatos are bloomking heavy and some of the San Marzano Romas are setting pretty heavy. Should be some good canning later on. Winter and summer squash, and pumpkins are growing well. All my Melons are coming up. Hot and Bell peppers are growing and starting to bloom ande my cukes are running and blooming like crazy.

Walking thru my grapes and fruit I found a bunch of mulberry's starting to ripen, blackberries, and blueberries close to ripening. Blueberries are heavy too. Most all my apple, peach, and both pear trees have fruit set and growing. This would be my first harvest from the trees. Pecans and Pawpaws don't look like they are gonna produce anything this year.

We just got 3" of rain over the weekend and that was our first significant rain in over two months. All the plants, and the weeds of course have shot up, so back to weeding everything.

looks like my tomatoes got a bit of sunburn... :(

Supposed to be cloudy for a couple days, so hopefully that helps.

Took a stroll around the yard last night, got a large handful of mulberries and blueberries. First of both for the season. We also will have our first apples since I planted them. First ones will be Lodi's. Most all the trees have at least some apples on them, as do the pears. We also got our first bell pepper.

And keep the hail storms away. We've had small hail within 10 miles of us four times this year already. Nothin major, but it don't take a lot to ruin a garden.

Here in CO this is the hail season, had pea sized hail 4 times already. But I cover all with more buckets or PE (poly)

Our garden and fruit trees are producing well this year. The best over all in a few years. Several things are going on that I have to deal with. While the blueberries are doing great, I have lost 2 and maybe 3 plants. I am researching what types I want to go back with. The plants I have lost are all the same type and I suspect hot dry summers are not what they like. I haven't saw any sign of disease. I will replace these three and may add 2-4 more.

Another aspect is our onion crop. I ordered 7 types of onions this spring with the intention of seeing what produces best in this area, as well as, see what types store the best. The types I selected were for expected storage times. Right away I lost pretty much all of one type. The other six have done well. I have already harvested one type. 3 others are starting to ripen. The other one don't like a great deal more being ready. I have red, yellow, and whites, and all but the first that ripened are getting some great size to them, some close to softball size. Most all tennis ball or larger. Every type we have tried have really good taste. The only thing left is to see how well and which types store the best.

Onion and Potatoes are me least known plants and sadly my failures. Next year I will invest a greater effort into them.

Full circle... I've transplanted 15 of my pepper plants back into pots and brought them back into the sunroom to at least get a few more weeks of ripening out of them, or for some, to hopefully over winter. Don't know if it is possible, but I'm going to try.

Had our first frost last night. Luckily, I covered the rest of my peppers!

We had our first rain which was nice. The problem is that means winter is on it way. It is so nice to go out in the morning pick a honey dew or cantaloupe for breakfast then have tomato sandwiches for lunch. We have made zucchini and cucumber pickles. I got a whole bunch of different peppers which make for nice salads. We made a huge batch of spaghetti sauce this week and froze a couple gallons. This week I am making a batch of chili and taco makings. The quince are ready to pick so I am going to get some this week and make jelly. The pomegranates should be ready to pick and make jelly in another couple of weeks. I just love this place.

On a side note I went up to my property up north and there is an old apple tree. It has a bunch of dings from the damn bear trying to climb it so I decided to pick the apples. They are fantastic and his loss is my gain.... I got to get back up there and try to prune the poor tree and see if we can get it into shape for next year.

We are having a hard rain right now. Tomorrow I will pick the rest of the honey dews I got six this morning. Most of the tomatoes are ready and I am going to make a huge pot of salsa. We are suppose to get warm weather later this week, 80 degrees + so I just may see if I can plant some winter vegetables.
