In a seedy dive I once used the hatchet from the trunk of my car as a wedge under the door and stopped some drunken goons from forcing their way in... although I did need to place my foot on it and help keep it in place as their repeated attempts was wiggling it loose.

I think if I had to be in that situation I would use a chair and tuck it up under the door knob to use it as a jam type thing. Seen it done in movies but have never had to do it myself.

tried that... the chair backs were 4" shorter than the door knobs. have a plan B...
