I ordered a steel workshop last year from Mayflower buildings last summer, and I have saving up $ to put in the concrete floor. The concrete pad is costing more than the entire cost (including shipping) of the building. But it was started on Thursday, and the concrete was poured on Saturday. It will be 40’x20’, with an 8’x8’ overhead door, and a steel regular door. It should look something like this when finished.

The building is buried under all of the weeds in the background. I’ve already ran over a 5 gal. bucket containing all of the nuts and screws with the bushhog...now I’m trying to pick them up with a magnet. Oh what fun!

from what I've read about some of those pre-fab buildings - have the $$$$$ and the time to upgrade parts of the assembly as you go - additional bracing & bracketing never hurts ....

Going to be a great shop once it is done. Nice size!

How much does concrete go for down there, per yard?

Ah ha! So that's what you're up too! OK, my input on those things.....I built one down in FL a 30x53 a little odd ball in size. 5' on the side walls I believe it was. It took us (couple of neighbors) a weekend to stand up the shell one band at a time. Then I forget how long it took me to get me to finish tightening the thousands of bolts. I used a compressor and pneumatic wrench. Then add two big ass roll up doors. That was 2004 I believe and it still doesn't leak and has survived all storms that came through Panama City area. I'd say for the price they are great buildings if you put them together as per manufacturers specs. Yup, I built that as per "my" specs inside and the x got that one. It was a great shop.

Yeah' I'm trying to picture where you put that thing. By the way, we put an offer in on that property across the ridge from you......

It’s going down on the bottom of the land by the road where the mobile home used to be many years ago. There isn’t any room up top, and the neighbor didn’t want to sell me any of his top land, so the only place I could put it is in front of his house. I’m hoping if things ever turn to poop, it will look like it belongs to the neighbors, and people won’t know I’m further up the hill once I cut down the power pole and cut the wires running up to the dome.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f226/gantsum/rv/3D36B4E9-7256-43C8-BAF1-944770B7E109_zpszw51ef8j.png (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/gantsum/media/rv/3D36B4E9-7256-43C8-BAF1-944770B7E109_zpszw51ef8j.png.html)

We used fiber reinforced concrete, with the wire mesh imbedded in 6 inch thick concrete. The rear of the building will be my wood working shop, and the front end hear the driveway will be for storage and for the boat. Nothing heavy will be going in it, so I’m guessing 6 inch will be sufficient.

Very nice. I put up a pre-fabricated building earlier this year, or should I say a bought it, a crew puts it up.
Nothing near that size, though.
You probably ran into the same issue I did, these pre-fabricated buildings cost less than half what a stick built one does.

I’m not trying to ignore anyone...I just don’t know the price per yard for the concrete. I paid $6200 for the 6 inch thick 20x40 pad. I paid separate for the rock to go under the pad to level up the space, with the rest to go on the driveway. The guy who I hired said since I bought the rock, he wouldn’t charge for the anchor bolts. I think I’ve got 114 of them that will need to be drilled and then tapped in. They will go in every 12 1/4 inches, with a steel angle bolted onto the floor, and the building bolted onto the upright part of the angle. Maybe this two pics from the plans will show it better. I’ve seen some of these buildings that are but into a channel or trough in the concrete, which is then filled in. This goes flat onto the pad.
Last year I was quoted $8000-$9000 by several different contractors, so I’m guessing $6200 is a good deal, but he might have over charged me.

I might have mentioned it last year, but I was contacting several companies that made these types of buildings to check out their prices, ease of assembly, delivery charges, etc. About a month later I got a call from Mayflower Steel Bldg. The sales rep told me he had a building there someone had ordered, put down a deposit on, but couldn’t then pay the balance. It was smaller than what I wanted, so I ordered some extra panels to make it to the size I wanted, added on the end walls, and added an 8x8 over head door. The original buyer paid xtra for the arch connector plates, and I also ordered pins that screw onto the interior bolts so insulation can be installed easier, just pushing the insulation panels onto the pins, and pushing on a plastic disc onto the pin after the insulation is on to hold it into place. Even with the delivery, the total cost was only $7629. From what I’ve seen, the 20x40 would normally sell for around $15,000. I pays to shop around and to ask for any help they can give you.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f226/gantsum/rv/F21AAE33-B711-444B-A683-49D8CD141CBA_zpse3oppzxf.png (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/gantsum/media/rv/F21AAE33-B711-444B-A683-49D8CD141CBA_zpse3oppzxf.png.html)

400 cubic feet / 27 = approx. 14.82 cubic yards, or about $418 per cubic yard. and 114 bolts sounds about right given a 1 or 2 inch offset inwards from the edge of the slab, regained from fastening the building to the upright.

Did you install rebar in this pad?

I'm wondering about, if I end up with a trailer, just having pads wide enough for the trailer tires to be driven onto, and smaller anchoring footings, and a 10'x15'x6" pad for a truck garage. Given the above figures, that runs to shy of $1200 for the garage pad alone.

Today I finished installing all of the anchor bolts and installing the arch connector plates all around the base. Tomorrow I start bolting the 7 pieces together to make each 2 ft deep arch. Each arch, with all seven pieces use a total of 120 bolts, times 19 arches. Then there are around 112 bolts used to connect each arch to the next one, times 19 arches. Damn, that’s a lot of bolts. Here’s what I got so far.

WOOHOO. Welcome neighbor. I am putting it up myself, with the help oh the neighbor kid when needed. Right now I’m just assembling the arches in 3 pieces on the ground. It’s been difficult to put them together on the ground due to the ground is on the ground and not to good for the back. Plus they are pretty floppy, so after bolting together a few pieces, I decided to make a jig to hold them in place better, and to make them higher off the ground. It worked pretty good.

Template jig 2.0 I was able put in the two pieces and bolt them together rather quickly in the jig, but I was having difficulty getting it out with the boards so high holding the steel in. I quickly realized the front boards didn’t need to be so high. I cut them down to make getting the arch out so much easier. I was able to bolt together 20 2 piece panels in a few hours.

Hey brother, WTFO? I'm beginning to feel your pain...........I have been busier than a 3 peckered billy goat as of late, supposed to be closing this afternoon, did the final walk through yesterday (inspect repairs on house) and it didn't go to well. Was waiting for the realtor (she needs to unlock the gate) and decided to flip open the main water meter at the road. The meter was spinning like a fart fan.......no one was on the property....we have a major leak......good plumber. Showed the realtor when she got there, she told me that the reducer valve was bad and the plumber was going to replace it. Uuuuuuh, maybe you'd think he would turn the water off eh? Anyway we got to the house and observed leak, I went down into the basement to check some of the other repair work and found water leaking into the basement from the leak underground.....wonderful. Oh yeah, anyway no damage done down there. Checked the elctrician's work (replaced all exterior receptacles with GFI's) one does not trip the other's cover wasn't attached (broken threads in box)and would allow major water intrusion. Hello..........what's with these people? I can see I will be standing over some people's shoulders when they do any work for me. Other than doing yourself it's hard getting it done and done right, it seems to be my luck as well lately with auto repair, but I won't get into that story. I'll keep you posted, and you need to give me a call. My dozer, tractor and implements of destruction are also on the launch pad to be hauled over there as well, all set up. We just need to close the deal and we'll be neighbors. So my days have been FUBAR lately brother at's why I haven't been around anywhere. Be safe, More to follow...............I'll have to start a new "resurrection" thread about our NEW property unless........Mr. Murphy raises his ugly fuckin head again.

Well, at least with these three you're well right to be PO'ed.

Are their communications and their manners that poor?

If that boy was so desperate, IMO he'd not have his(?) baby's mother(?) speaking on his behalf for work, damn well he'd be out there himself, and three hours would bloody well better be time getting whatever tools and transit. If he shows up drunk or stoned, have Mr. Mossberg escort him off the property if he won't take a clue.

I'm not an electrician, plumber or a skilled trade. Looking back, wish I was. I CAN however, drive a nail without hitting my thumb too often, got 'lefty loosy, righty tighty' down pat... The one leg is not great, but I can still lift upper body stuff.

Well you do have a dozer River Rat. Who's going to stand in front of it protesting with you at the controls.
Just doing it in the name of upgrading and safety for the long haired hippy gnome and others. Just saying.

Well I didn't see them yesterday, I officially broke ground. Actually the Lynchburg Swat/SRO/Sherriff showed up, I'm letting him get his last hunting season in on the property (mighty nice of me) It's kinda slow going there are some stubborn trees but I made a dent in it in a few hours. Talked to the builder last night, showed me his plans for my shop, needs tweekin.

DG.....what's your status? Do I need to come over there or what?????????? Of course I could just call him right?
OK, I gotta run to the other property and go to work, out!

BWRR..mission to complete all arches is a done deal. Starting on the end walls tomorrow. I sure do thank you for your offer of assistance, but right now, you are busier than I will ever be. If you need my help, just holler...or just throw a rock. We won’t need the HAM radio, your are close enough to run a tin can phone line.

All of the arches are in place, and we started on the end walls. An 8’x8’ door will go in the opening. I will put in a steel walk though door at a later date to Rt. Side of the overhead door. The back wall will be solid.

My helper and I dot the front door all framed in, and started to put the overhead door into the frame. But it got real interesting when I found out the directions were for a different door type, I had parts they done show, they show parts I don’t have....
So I went online and figured it all out with my big giant head. The door should be in place tomorrow.
Gonna do a test picture to see if it works.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f226/gantsum/rv/E1F489F8-5866-4729-96B9-BAF9369F5011_zpsvdndyyn2.jpg (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/gantsum/media/rv/E1F489F8-5866-4729-96B9-BAF9369F5011_zpsvdndyyn2.jpg.html)

Looks like it worked Mr. Rat.

It’s going to be my S&M sex dungeon/piano bar. Pina coladas are half price on Barry Manalo Thursday’s.

Haha...Don’t know if you are serious, but the back 20’-25’ feet will be my woodworking shop, and the front half with the overhead door will be storage. I’ll put the boat and tractor in there this year, and next summer I plan on putting a metal awning in the rear to cover the tractor and keep it outside.

We got the 8’x8’ door installed, just needs a few minor tweaks. The missus and I will be leaving to go to the bakery in AL tomorrow, and work there thru Christmas Eve, come home, stay with my stepmother thru the 27th, then come back home to have Christmas with our combined kids on the 28th and 29th, then grandsons birthday on the 30th, back to stepmothers to care for her thru Jan 4. Whew...so I won’t get much else done until next year.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f226/gantsum/rv/0591A607-9404-4266-B50C-838C6DA41401_zpsyqpacfl8.jpg (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/gantsum/media/rv/0591A607-9404-4266-B50C-838C6DA41401_zpsyqpacfl8.jpg.html)

As you can see, the building is on the bottom of my land. I’m hopping if SHTF does happen, people will think the building belongs to the neighbors, as you can see their house through the open door, and you can’t see me up on the hill. I plan to cutting down the power pole going up the driveway to where the power then goes underground if things go bad. I’ll also cut the dead power wire down at the building and conceal the driveway so I’m invisible.

My question was based on the pic of the seat.

And yes, I see all the pics.

The seat picture was just used as a test picture, found it on the internet. Red John said he was just seeing text with no image, and BWRR was having problems with photobucket, so I was curious.

Well...I mostly stick to wooden toys...cars and trucks, that sort of thing. But the stool, I can make you a few I guess...I’ll put you down for two dozen. Will that be cash, check, or Visa card?

I bought the walk in door, a 32 inch wide to save space. It had a slight scrape in the frame on the top that would be hidden in a normal wall. So I got it for 10% off..woot woot. Spent the day cutting out the wall and the framing on the floor that the wall bolts to. I plan on I installing the door tomorrow. I will try to post pictures, but today I was invited to send photobucket a ton of $ that I will decline to send. So...maybe no pics for a bit. I don’t know of anyone who would spend over $350 per year just to be able to post a picture...they should be out of business soon I guess?

Ethically they should be. The small fry of less than say 200 pics will leave for imgur, the ones with a large # of pics and larger naivete to believe that PB will maintain them safely once paid will stay.

I deleted them, one and all. Took an hour or more.

I haven’t posted about the building lately. All the steel is up and in place. Both doors, 8 x 8 and standard walk thru are in. I’m saving up the cash to but in the insulation and the electric.
