Here's a good deal on a Katadyn Vario water filter from discountfilterstore.com. $64.99 and $2.99 shipping.

I usually see prices in the $75 to $85 range so to get one shipped for less than $70 is great. I've wanted one of these for quite some time.

The Katadyn Vario Microfilter is a fast small water pump that is ideal for up to 4 people for backpacking and trekking. The Vario combines efficiency and simple handling with superior filtration and is compatible with most standard outdoor bottles and hydration bladders. Three stage filtration consists of an adjustable ceramic pre-filter, high-performance glass fiber filter and an activated carbon filter to eliminate odor.

* Pumps 2 liters of water per minute in "fast flow" mode and 1 liter per minute in "longer life" mode, Switches to "longer life" mode for better filtration of cloudy water with a simple twist of the casing

* Multi-stage filtration system with a 0.3 micron microfilter removes waterborne cysts and bacteria for safer and better tasting water

* Dual action pump is easy to operate and provides continuous water flow, adapter base and output hose can be attached directly to your water bottles or larger containers

* Replaceable carbon core keeps water tasting fresh and reduces chemicals, odors and toxins throughout the life of the filter cartridge

* Includes Pump/Housing, Microfilter cartridge, Ceramic prefilter disc, Intake hose with modular pre-filter, Output hose with bottle clip, Deluxe carry bag, Cleaning pad, Reusable silicone lubricant, Operating instructions

* 2 year warranty

Myself and Lunchbox use the Katadyn Hiker Pro water filter on our hiking/camping trips. It's light weight and easy to use, we have used it for a few years and have not had any issues with it. I would recommend this brand.

Well, the Vario showed up shortly after it was ordered. I won't get a chance to play with it for a while but will keep everybody posted.

But it looks like DiscountFilterStore.com (http://discountfilterstore.com/) is legit.

I have the Katadyn Vario that I've picked up from someone from Cragislist, as well as the Katadyn Pocket that I've brought new first. They are both excellent water purifier. I would certainly recommend them to anyone.
