Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys and Girls. Posters and trolls alike......Redjohn and I present to you the finalists in the October 2011 Thread of the Month contest.

On searching for all threads started in October I got 5 pages of results. That's right, 5 pages! Thank you to everybody who posted a thread and contributed. We appreciate you taking the time to contribute here. We were overwhelmed by the number of new threads and, perhaps more importantly, the quality of the threads y'all created.

The threads below were chosen as especially interesting. They exhibited creativity, generated interesting discussion and obviously took a little time to create. That's not to say the other threads weren't good....most of them were (which made choosing the finalists somewhat challenging). But we felt these threads stood out.

How much of your own food do you grow? (http://www.shtfready.com/food-water/how-much-if-your-own-food-do-you-grow-665.html)

Lessons learned from the great Houston bugout (http://www.shtfready.com/general-discussions/lessons-learned-great-houston-bug-out-698.html)

How I pressure can meat (http://www.shtfready.com/food-water/how-i-pressure-can-meat-715.html)

I have a great new book so I thought Id share: spice bible (http://www.shtfready.com/food-water/i-have-great-book-spice-bible-so-i-thought-i-would-share-721.html)

What illness scares you the most post SHTF (http://www.shtfready.com/general-discussions/what-illness-scares-you-most-post-shtf-723.html)

When SHTF what are you going to feed your dog (http://www.shtfready.com/general-discussions/when-shtf-what-you-going-feed-your-dog-766.html)

Choosing the right SHTF firearm (http://www.shtfready.com/weapons/choosing-right-shtf-firearm-781.html)

I found an underground bunker complex (http://www.shtfready.com/shelter/found-underground-bunker-complex-804.html)

Now here is where you, the members, step in, as the winner will be chosen by you fine folks. Simply vote for which thread you think was the most thought provoking, most interesting, generated the best response, or was flat out most cool.

Voting will be open through Thursday the 10th (ie for about a week).

Which ever thread gets the most votes will win the prize.

Just as a reminder, here are some of the items the winner will walk away with.

Folks...if you haven't voted already please do!

We've only gotten 14 votes so far and we have far more members that that. Let's reward the finalists in the thread of the month contest by making this an exciting race.

Making an executive decision here, but I'm going to leave voting for this open for a while longer.

Hopefully we'll get some more voting in.

Well it appears we are going to get no additional votes. I'm really disappointed that more people did not participate. We had some great threads in the running and I was hoping for more of a horse-race.

That said, it would appear that the winner of our October, Thread of the Month contest is no other than our very own Queen of the Doom Room: JustAPrepper !

Her thread, How I Pressure Can Meat (http://www.shtfready.com/food-water/how-i-pressure-can-meat-715.html) recieved the most votes, with Izzy's weapons oriented thread coming in a close second.

Justa wins the prize package I have pictured above. I was able to secure a number of other items that will be added to the bounty. I'll toss up a full picture of what she won later tonight.

Thanks to all who took the time to create some really solid threads and those who took the time to vote.

So join me in congratulating our first ever contest winner: JustAPrepper

WOW!! This is so exciting and one of the coolest things that's happened to me in a VERY long time!! This sounds so dorky but it really means a lot to me!! Thank you Stig and RedJohn for putting it together and thank you to all who stepped up and voted, not just for my thread but for the others as well. There is a lot of really knowledgeable and talented people on this board whose posts I appreciate very much. It's a pleasure to share my time here and be amongst such great company!

You can only vote once in most polls, or at least how I had this one set up.

Generally speaking there's a small round button just to the left of each choice in the poll. You click on that to make your selection. Then, usually just below all the selections, and to the right, is a button that says "vote now" or "click here to vote" (can't remember). Click that and you're done.

I'll include those instructions when the next round of voting comes along. Hope that helps.

Voting is allowed only once per account. All votes work like that. You cannot vote twice in a presidential election. However, for the next one, maybe we can give multiple choices. I'll look into limiting to 3 choices. Would this work?

And congratulations to JustAPrepper.
