Lost 2 chickens this week, and caught these two this afternoon. Not positive they did it, but they got the blame. Found one of the carcasses of my chicken and it was hole but picked clean. Wife wants to get them mounted, so they are in the freezer, not sure I want to spend 800 bucks on that.

I do love the LR-308 though, first kill with it.

Wow, wasn't aware you had cats that big around there.

Oh yeah, got a pic of a cougar a few years ago.

Tan them hides! If you aren't going to, salt them and mail them to me and I will.

Well mounting I can not do. But if you want to be walked through tanning them, just shoot me an email, its much easier than you might expect. As FYI, freezing the hides....really bad for the preservation of the hide itself hair on...which I would presume you want.

We freeze all the deer mounts before getting them to the taxidermist and they have been fine. Had one in the freezer for 2 years and it still had no issues. But might take you up on the offer on the tanning if we don't get them mounted. When they are tanned is the hide soft, or hard?

freezing is fine, but ideally you should wrap them in layers of newspaper. The fur itself can get freezerburnt, and it can loosen off from the hide and fall out.

Oh, and "Mighty fine shootin', Tex!"

:)

They really would look great mounted

Sorry just seeing this, you can tan them to a soft or a rawhide, it just depends on how long you work them.

Thanks going to have to get that info from you. I just can't see spending that much on a mount.

SERIOUSLY!! The hides would be way better (in my opinion) then spending good money on taxidermy!

Yeah, especially since the cheapest I can have them both done is 800 bucks. Most people want 1200 for each cat.

Rediculous!!!

800 dollar can buy a lot of food. Also, as the hunter ... I would fabricate something to wear out of those - like a lined vest with hood. Another idea ... is to put the hides in a shadow box picture frame - and hang on the wall. They'd look amazing displayed that way (the hides). You could also have a parchment in the back, with some information about the cats ... and a rendering of the cat and their footprint. And date you shot them .. even that picture of you with them!

I'm thinking some thermo undies. ;)

Even if you just leave the hides in the round (skinned and prepped), and just hang em on the wall. They look great, and will last forever.
