lol... I wanted to play, but there's no sense in ranting. My current locale is wholly inadequate. If it has a plus its the proximity to a huge freshwater source. That's it. I'll be here all day detailing the negatives. We're looking at places to move to now.

I'm stuck. The only thing I've go going for me is that I live about 150 feet up the hill from my dad. At least there are friendlies danger close and more friendlies across town.

Pros: Smaller rural city about 5k-6k
Small town oriented
I work in my community
Good police and fire coverage
DPW is great
Very close to large bodies of water
BOL is 1 hour north
Pro Gun Conservative area
50 miles north of Detroit
Country is a hop skip and a jump away
Fireplace in house
Plenty of space for large garden
Large city lot

Cons: Some criminal element in the city
50 miles north of Detroit
City water (working on fixing that)
Open lot (will install privacy fence)
Living in the a city with lots of eyes on you
Large state prison is about 10 miles south
About 15 miles north of very developed area and ANG base

I guess I can play.
Pros:
Live in a county with a population of >1million (the absolute worst!!!)
Surrounded on three sides (>2 mile radius)by ghetto dwelling obamanites
BO route willed be clogged like rosie o'donnells arteries
My "private community" is only surrounded by a berm with hedges(would require a lot of concertina wire)
50% percent of my nieghbors are geriatric,government dependant sheep.
6 miles from the AFB
The rest is trivial

Pros:
Most of my friends and nieghbors know I'm a retired B C/O ,therefore will look to me for certain instructions and ideas for the coming emergencies
Hospital is literally at the end of my street!
Me and the ol'lady are extremely self reliant from a medical treatment stand-point.
Most of the active duty and reservists know me and are good friends(I like to think so anyway)
My BOL is < 10 miles away
My nieghbor across the street (Chubbs) is also a combat vet 'Marine' and will be a great asset for quick problem response.
If needed, I can drum up quite a decently skilled force locally.(again,I'd like to think so anyway).

In the end,What you are prepared for will make up the constituency of what you can or can't benefit from in an event of any magnitude. Meaning that being prepared for any situation will decide how good or bad off you are in your locale.

Lots of wild game
Plenty of water sources
Good growing season
Some pretty good neighbors
Farm&feed stores close by
Volunteer firehouse less than a mile away
Hilly terrain with dense vegetation
Lots of nut trees and tons of wild black berries

Weaknesses:
Ticks
Fire ants
mosquitoes
Nuclear power plant within 15 miles as a crow flies
A couple of not so good neighbors(never been a problem w/ us but they've had several run ins with leo for drugs)

Strengths

Small village of 16 vacation cabins set back in 3 million acres of national forest. Only six permanent residents including myself.
no stores
no services
relatively unknown
plenty of timber, water, wildlife
winter is 7-8 months long, and without snow being plowed, pretty much inaccessible.
11 miles from any paved road, and unmarked.
There is only one paved, 50 mile, two-lane highway into the area that is devoid of any human habitation, and is susceptible to land slides.

Most people are preppers
little regulation or enforcement
I can pee out the front door when I like.
