    Animals you don't see everyday.

This has nothing to do with preparedness and or survival... but I though some of you might enjoy seeing these guys.

    Genuine North Carolina Flying Squirrels.

As you may or may not know, seeing a flying squirrel is somewhat rare, and I probably wouldn't have even known they were there, had it not been for noticing my cat (who is an awsome hunter) staring up into this tree for an unusual amount of time. We have many tree dwelling birds, and gray squirrels on our property, but since this was at night, my interest was peaked as to what the cat might be stalking.
This particular tree is oozing some sap out of one side (I suspect heart rot or some kind of infection) and this sap smells kind of like cheap wine. It really attracts butterflys, bees and hummigbirds during the daylight hours, and apparently the F-Squirrels at night. They show up everynight for a cocktail We've never seen more than two on the tree at one time, but only have pics of this one. He let me get within 6 feet of the tree before he and his friend ran up into the top branches.

As for the cat... Yes he caught one. I got it from him before he could take it out, or do any damage.
The squirrel was pretty pissed, but other than that seemed fine. I stuck him back on the tree and he took off.
The 12 Gauge... It's not just for rabbits anymore.

Very cool!!! I was able to zoom in pretty close by holding down the Ctrl key+moving the mouse wheel. Thanks for sharing.
You don't need to be the strongest
or the most intelligent to survive
but by having the right tools and
    the adaptability of change
    is where you will prevail.

This guy has "some" flashlights. Just a couple. As in, a metric-butt ton of em.

Give a man fire, and he'll be warm for a day!
Light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life!

    Cat's are food... not friends!

If you're going to fight, then fight like you're the third monkey on the ramp into Noah's arc... and brother, it's starting to rain.
