    Meals using only prep foods

Every now and then I like to make a meal using only prep items. My family went Camping/Hiking this past weekend and after unloading all of the gear when we got home, we wanted something quick and easy.
I stock many of the "Bear Creek" soup mixes. The taste is good, the shelf life is a few years, One bag will yield at least 5 real world adult portions, and they're silly easy to throw together. (stir contents into 8 cups of boiling water)

I like to jazz these soups up a bit, and in keeping with my "Prep Only" theme, used only items that I have in my LT storage.

First 1 bag of BC Potato Soup:

One can of Spam Bacon, diced and browned in the skillet:

One can of whole new potatos, quartered and browned in a slillet with dried onion flakes, and rosemary (Spices are gonna be so important in a world without them)

Wisk the soup mix in with 8 cups of boiling water. As the soup started to cook down after about 10 minutes, I added the Spam bacon, and potatos. A little pepper on top and and I had some good eats that cost me under $6.00.

Anyone else have any prep only recipes

That looks like a pretty good meal. Cost is low and pretty filling I'm sure. I completely agree with you about the spices. Even just a little will make a big difference after days of no spices.

I think most people who've seen my Pantry Porn thread, know my opinion about spices. lol

Once the garden is harvested, I'll be adding a pile more!

Nice soup. Basically anything that is in my pantry will turn into a meal at some point. My famous last words to the wife at meal time, is "I'll throw something together"
Give a man fire, and he'll be warm for a day!
Light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life!

    Cat's are food... not friends!

If you're going to fight, then fight like you're the third monkey on the ramp into Noah's arc... and brother, it's starting to rain.

I am on a kick right now of boullion/rice/freeze dried ground beef in a single dish type of meal. If I ever have to subsist on my LTS I better work on ways to prepare them that I like.

We did a after holidays meal with the group....first meeting of the year at the BOL.

At the beginning of the meeting....the electrical main was pulled.

We hooked up a generator for the cold storage...and a couple lights.

Really wasn't that big of deal....all food came from stores and was prepared for 20 people....3 meals.

We have a lot of propane for the range and oven....however...cooking by lantern is a bit different.

The use of the new privy was a novelty...but could get old...most folks went to the bunk house to do the necessary....it has gravity fed spring water.

The kids watched a movie on the portable DVD player.

A good time was had by all....and all ate too well....

Sounds like a real good time.
Just because we are peaceful does not mean we have forgotten how to be violent.

As a whole/group we practice (or we should) with all our gear. Cooking with what could be some very bland ingredients will suck. We all should be working on our cooking skills and taking notes about what works best with what...I know squirrel and rice will go together but with all the other hard times going on, maybe we can at least enjoy a meal.

    Forget milk.....GOT SPICES??????

    I am me,
    I am free,
    You can not change me.

If you try, you will see,
    That I am unchangeable,
    Because I am me.
