So you have all this canned food......how ya going to open it?

We have a few of the "Pampered Chef" side cutting can openers. I like them so much I gave them away as Christmas gifts a couple years ago.

At the BOL....we have a large commercial opener....similar to this...

and I bought about 120 of these at a gunshow....

    .

I do pic up good ones at yard sales.....got about 5 or 6 set back.

What do you use....and what do you have for a backup?

BTW....my obsession with having a can opener was developed on a 4 day hunting trip with a bunch of canned food....and not a can opener among us. But I can open a can with a knife fairly well now....

We have 3 in the kitchen, 2 in the camper, p-38's or p-51's in most all our bags, vehicles, etc. I hadn't gave any thought to the commercial models. I'll have to pick up 1 or 2 of them.

We have several hand openers and a handful of the little P-thingy's. <<<Not sure what number ours is and I've never used them. Might should probably do that sometime soon!

What I like about the side openers...is the can then can be used as a storage vessel for the unused amount....for a while any ways.

This is a rare occurrence in my house due to the almost 13 yr old and almost 11 yr old boys.

Well, I guess if I got desperate, I could use a knife.
However, we have a commercial scissors type opener we use all the time (no longer even own an electric opener), and I have a small pile of real (not cheap commercial copies) P38s and some P51s.
There's one on my keyring that's been there since about 1984, and it still opens as good as it ever did.

Come to think of it, I've got several of those ammo spam can openers, although I've never tried them on a regular can.
    I'll have to do that.
    Maybe this weekend.
My wife and daughter are going to a neighboring state with her mother for the weekend, it'll just be me and my 20yr old son, "batching it".
It'll be a good time for the spam can opener to be in the kitchen.
