Saw a Dollar Tree store today, so stopped and went in to check out the boxed milk (thank you illini warrior for pointing out that they carried it). Instead of the little small boxes, they had the quart size with a one year expiration date. So we grabbed 5 qt. boxes for medium term storage along with boxed juices, Yoohoo, etc. All had 12 to 18 months expiration dates. Also stopped by Walmart and restocked canned tuna, chicken, meats, Oregon Fruits, etc. Then went and picked up 2 gallons of wildflower honey to stock. This is to restock for medium range storage.

Great prices. Until Warrior mentioned it, we did not know that Dollar Tree had food items, I kinda always thought it was a Chinese junk store.

We have Dollerama here.... and great prices on limited food items too! I checked dates and did some inquiries a number of years ago.

The items there were the same as what was full priced at the grocery store next door (same lot batch) but if a single case got dropped and one can was dented, the entire case was sold off to the dollar store. hence the better prices. Just make sure you don't take the dented cans.

Good point, we never take dented cans. My mother drilled that in my head many moons ago, so it is natural instinct to inspect cans and check dates.

Went and watched my daughter play softball for her college team up north. I surprised her with a new backpack and sleeping bag to replace her old ones. No she has a proper bug out bag (just don't tell her mom I told her it was for camping...........my daughter knows the difference). I also got my son a couple of new 9mm Shield mags to go in his kit.

Well I put the snow shovel and snow boots up to replace them with rain gear this week. bought a new $150.00 bicycle for $50.00 for this summer. rescuing a dob, (Lab and Boxer mix) no one seems to want him and everyone who takes him brings him back so I am determined to help this dog. He hates cats, small animals, small kids and is afraid of the dark. steals all the covers off you for himself, (spends all night pulling them off of you) other than that he has no problems.
    I am me,
    I am free,
    You can not change me.

If you try, you will see,
    That I am unchangeable,
    Because I am me.

a small dent isn't necessarily bad, but it is impossible to determine the damage inside the can. if the coating on the inside is comprimized, then the contents can react with the bare metal, and develop rust, particularly if the contents are acidic (like canned tomatoes); or they will take on a metalic taste (especially for sweet items like canned fruit).

Not sure if the nutritional value is comprimised, but the taste and asthetics certainlly can be.
