Watch ebay....they come up quite often.

We have these around the retreat...they work well.

Takes 2 D batteries....but can still be used w/o batts if you crank the handle.

The wire is available.....but you don't have to use that particular wire.....most 2 lead wires will work....very low v system.

Damn...those would be handy in all manner of situations. Temporary comms between two houses during a hurricane (no idea why hurricanes are on my mind....). Hooking together a house and a workshop. Comms between a camp and a hunting blind.

    Neat stuff.

We've been using these on the farm for a while now....they work great.

I've got a few of them at surplus stores....a couple at a yardsale...and the rest off ebay or AR15.com.

we went ahead and buried all but 2 of the lines...just because they crossed a creek.

They work great.....no one can listen in w/o tapping in on a line.

furthermost run is about 3500 feet....sounds like the one ran at 200 ft.

One thing we are concerned about....but our electrician is doing some research on....is lightening strikes near line...cause the long run goes over a hill top.

Still looking for a SB-22 switch board.....we have a rigged system we could use....but would rather have a "real" one. As it is now...you ring one....you ring them all...unless you pull plugs.

That's not an issue now....but in the event could be bad if a building is not under our control. Guess we'll have to switch to radios then (Motorola CP-200s)....if we still can charge.

If you are only running 2 of them....it is a non issue.

There are companies that sell new rubber and cords for them....I'll try to find the link.

Try to get the wall mount type....not really necessary....but given an option. You can hold the handset on with a bungee in either case.

We do not store the batts in them.....but keep a box with a few sets of batts right beside it....they don't need to be in it to ring the clacker....just talking....unless you want to crank the entire time you are talking.

The reason we don't keep batts in them.....is that was the biggest problem....leaky batts.

I spent a whole day with a dremel cleaning them up....but thats the great thing.....they can usually be salvaged.

We have a few we keep as "parts phones".

That was fast, great report man. Sold me, I'm in, sign me up, where do I sign? As for the Lightning issue. Maybe looking into some way of grounding the system? Grounding rod? Is there a ground located inside the box? Thanks Echo, I appreciate-cha!....................3500 feet?................ Ya don't say..............
