Circuit protection maybe? Never heard of any phone doing that before.

Sniper, I had that happen to my phone once too. It was sitting on the dash in a black truck.
I suspect it is a safety function on the phone to keep it from...blowing up

I just picked up an Otter box for my Samsung Galaxy. I was impressed by the protection it provides.

"Rugged" phones like Casio's are publicized with "ruggedness," and instead of being moderately powerful and fast, they are rather low on ram and cpu technology.
That being said, the best way to go is with a phone with good specs, then later on, buy an otterbox or a similar protective case.

Eh, depends... I may soon go to a rugged phone myself such as the gz-one versus my current brick of glass...
It is, of course, obvious that speed, or height of fall, is not in itself injurious ... but a high rate of change of velocity, such as occurs after a 10 story fall onto concrete, is another matter.

I'm very happy with my Casio Ravine2. I don't use it for surfing the web and don't even have the data plan, I use it just as a phone. The call quality, speaker phone, battery time and functions are all top notch.
